He's a nice enough guy but super boring. It was really difficult to stay awake in this class. It was pretty much a repeat of third semester Spanish, I didn't feel like I really learned anything new. Only took it because of the language requirement, just like everyone else in the class.

Villanueva's a nice guy. That being said, it's very difficult to keep interest in his class for all 90 minutes. Paragraphs and oral presentations are excruciating to listen to, but you learn a lot. Don't worry about him as a professor, he's adequate and i'd still recommend taking his class.

I liked his class in general. He is good at explaining things, & we learned a lot of specific tips for grammar/writing which was useful. He is not very helpful is you ask him a specific question though, a lot of the time he doesn't understand what you are asking. Not much discussion, a lot of oral presentations. Weird grading system.

Prof. Villanueva is a great guy. That said, taking this class 2x a week for 1.5 hours was a bit difficult. For each grammar topic, we needed to write a parrafito, and then sit through an excruciatingly painful class listening to everybody read theirs out loud. Lots of writing, lots of reading, not too much speaking--rather unfortunately.

I thought he was hilarious! You have to go in with the mindset not to be afraid of him, because I know some people in my class found him scary...he can be harsh at times, but if you really want to improve your spanish, I would take his class! hes so sassy :)

Almost every class consisted of us reading out loud paragraphs that we'd written the night before while he graded us on our grammar/pronunciation. AWFUL. Besides that you won't talk much-- this is a lecture, and this is in no way a "conversation" class. If you're looking to actually learn spanish, take someone else.

Great teacher, tells you exactly what is going to be on tests, no homework was assigned, and the two presentations are easy. You don't even have to read any of the books, just spark note them!

A little intimidating at first, but you learn that he is just a little sarcastic. Genuinely wants his students to do well. Focuses A LOT on pronunciation, but is very helpful. Rushes through grammar basics. Gives extra credit on exams (study vocab). I would definitely take another class with him. Very professional and taught me a lot!

i absolutely SO surprised that people liked prof Villanueva. i agree completely with the comments about his condescending nature. he always made me feel REALLY stupid for not understanding or messing up. he is very intimidating, it is scary to participate. he expects people to understand things w/o explanation. awful teacher

I loved Prof. Villanueva. I learned so much in his class that is applicable in the Spanish world. I felt that he cared about making us learn useful topics that would help us, especially if you continue with Spanish. Hes not too easy, but I would definitely take another class with him!

Villanueva is a good teacher. I would take another class with him. He helped me improve my Spanish significantly and I got an A despite having probably the least Spanish experience in the class. Sometimes his office hours were helpful, other times not. But he does want you to do well, and he doesn't grade that hard on essays or presentations.

he's not a bad teacher, but he never learns anyone's names and it feels like he just doesn't give a crap about any of his students. his comments are helpful but they seem so detached that it doesn't stick all that well.

prof villanueva is clearly incredibly intelligent and is a highly acclaimed spanish poet/author, but in the classroom, he is really discouraging and condescending. i have always loved the spanish language and this class was really discouraging to me. focuses a lot on composition, i'm interested more in conversation.

Although enthusiastic in class, not helpful in OH. (Rude sometimes even) Unorganized with assignments, not a lot of class interaction. It's a conversation class...which we didn't do much of. Try to take class w/someone else.

Very enjoyable class. He knows exactly what he's talking about and he's great at explaining concepts that are difficult to understand. The assignments were a bit difficult, but doable, and my comprehension of the language being spoken increased, especially with the presentations. Definitely recommended.

Excellent professor but the class was really hard. It seemed very hard to get a good grade in that you would correct the things that he asked you to correct in your previous paper and then would come up with another list and you would still get the same grade. This class made me no longer consider a minor in Spanish.

The class is very chaotic. It's rushed, you don't know when things are due and the requirements aren't clear. When he does give you grades they are confusing, which makes it difficult to know where you stand in the class. I haven't leaned much of anything. I wish I didn't take him.
