The professor is certainly smart. As a "Teacher" however, he is not a good one. He is tackling tough material and his lectures consist of him spitting out information and expecting the class to absorb it like a sponge. You are getting what you pay for I suppose. Another teacher can teach this course better. If you value your GPA, don't take him.

Dr. Heilke definitely knows his philosophers, and is incredibly intelligent. The class is mostly just a lot of reading, but the midterm and final are quite difficult. Even though I find philosophy in general rather pointless, he made it about as interesting as I think it can be.

This professor has two interests: religion and politics. His mission in life is to work toward merging the two into one. He attempts this at both the individual and organizational level....in the classroom, and through administrative infiltration. For an A, defend Christianity and theocracratic rule as the only legitimate form of government.
