This class is GREAT! I have never been so confident in my ability to articulate a sophisticated argument, derive meaning from nonsense poetry ;), qualifying language, supporting my claims, etc. I definitely recommend this class. Class isn't easy-but if you attend class, follow prompts, and ask questions- you will do GREAT! great teacher overall!!!

Fantastic teacher. Truly cares about his students and their comprehension of the material. Take his courses. Expect to be challenged but, your writing will certainly improve. Also extremely approachable. Consider yourself lucky to be in one of his classes.

I would highly recommend this class. As previously stated, this course does have challenging essay prompts. However, this course sufficiently prepares students to transfer to a 4-year university. He is very well versed in English and is very open to various interpretations of literature. He is definitely not a "dictator", but pleasantly demanding.

he is the dictator of english. i have always had amazing english teachers and it has always been my favorite subject. i hated the fact that he says that there is a right and wrong way how to interpret something and how it is his job to call us out on it. no, that is not his job. his job is to teach english. i do not recommend.

Exellent teacher. English is my second lenguage, so writing essay is really hard for me. This teacher made it simple and clear. You had to think a little bit on the subject to make the essay, but you had a personal T.A. with a set up appointment, and he would help you re-write whatever was wrong. You will love this class!

I was lucky enough to take Burman's English 205 course at SD City College...our class was almost cancelled but we rallied together to keep it open. He has a fast-paced lecture style that keeps you interested. The papers were not easy, but he's so helpful. He truly does everything he can to ensure his students succeed. Prof looks good in corduroys!

Great professor, cool guy. The readings got a little boring for me, but I liked the essay prompts, they were challenging. He's very straightforward on what he expects of you, and he makes the lectures interesting. He once brought a skateboard to class and used it in his lesson :)

Great teacher, but no easy A. Burman really makes you think and always keeps things interesting. Extremely enthusiastic (even at 7 at night, but that could be due to all the coffee he drinks). I was dreading this class but looked forward to it every day and would definitely take his calss again. Two thumbs up!

RWS was suppose to be the mind-numbingly easy A (as quoted by my peers)but it's all a gamble, and if you're lucky- you'll get Burman. Burman makes you think and work for it. Not impossible to get an A but you have to deserve it. Not the breeze by class but happy I took it. Lots of useful material. Besides ladies- he's pretty charming.
