Friendly professor. Will suggest to go over problems three times, however, it was helpful for me to also go over the ppt and material at least three times in that I often needed additional review because the style of teaching was not what I was use to.

She's great at what she does and is extremely strategic with her assessments. Very aligned. Do not just depend on her videos. If you do ALL of her homework problems at least twice and study every day, you will be just fine. Organic chemistry builds up quickly and cramming will not work in this class. It is like no other class. Take her! xtra credit

This instructor is horrible. Her classes have high failure rates and the science department refuses to investigate. The science department is corrupt and just covers for bad instructors like this. This instructor needs to be fired asap.

IGNORE the bad reviews, Dr. Hessel is an awesome professor. She teaches Ochem so well. Keep in mind, organic chemistry is tough, so it requires a lot of hours of studying. I would study the chapter and homework before her lectures to get ahead. The homework helps a lot! Do it more than once! Do this and you will get your A. Perfect the material!

People give Dr. Hessel a bad rap because she teaches a tough subject. However, she is fair and is willing to answer questions you have. If you actually put forth effort and don't expect to just have an A handed to you (duh you're in college) then you will do fine. Her explanations are fantastic and help you understand things very clearly.

Dr. Hessel is a good professor but you have to put in a lot of effort because after all it is Organic Chemistry. Put in the effort and you should be alright. I did all the homework, they are optional but not if you want to do well in the class, took notes on the lectures and made flashcards. This was probably the class I devoted the most time to.

Dr. Hessel does not explain the material throughly. You can ask her a question and she would just repeat what the PowerPoint slide says. Her exams are difficult . I studied late nights and early mornings for exams and still didn't pass any of her exams. I also had a tutor( personal ) for her class; I would not recommend her as a professor.

Best professor at UHD . Organic chemistry is hard so you must treat it with respect. Do every problem in chapter and you will get things faster. Its more of placing your own effort . Other than that the lecture was clear and to the point. There may be stuff on the exam that goes beyond the lecture difficulty so practicing tough problems is key.

Dr. Hessel teaches well. She knows what she is talking about. But her exams are VERY difficult. I studied a lot by reading the textbook and doing the hw. I even read the additional book she recommends and still struggled bad. Take orgo with someone else!! Her tests are very hard and unfair compared to the homework problems.

She's a very good and hard professor. Well it is Organic Chemistry so expect the class to be hard. It is passable if you do the homework although it is not counted for a grade. But attending SI sessions will help tremendously. Pay attention in class & DO HOMEWORK.

Great teacher!! Really simple setup for the class which is go through powerpoints. Simple and effective. She takes all questions and makes sure the class understands. For tests, just do your homework multiple times and you'll do fine. These other reviews on here are misleading about her teaching. A great professor.

Terrible professor. She lectures over things that are irrelevant to the content on the exams. This instructor does not prepare students properly for the exams. The exams are extremely difficult. Avoid this instructor. The university only has her teaching CHEM 3301.

This class does not have any resource to succeed. Si are pretty much pointless. There is no practice exam. All you have is homework which is 5 times easier than exam and it doesn't help in exam also.

She may be very friendly and outgoing, but her lectures and exams are very Jeckyl and Hyde. Lecture is very straightforward and makes everything seem easy because she uses the easiest examples for each topic. But then the tests are like taking the MCAT as a 9 year old, containing the hardest possible versions of each question. Very difficult prof.

Can teach but her exams are no way like homework problems. She teach level one , homework problems are level 3 and her exams are level 10. If you care about gpa dont take her. Since her powerpoint notes are book notes except she makes notes easy to understand. Take this course at UH main or somewhere where your hard work will be rewarded at least.

she is really good professor who can teach organic chem really clearly. However, tests are really hard and tricky and the only way to succeed is to get a lot of practice from the homework and online questions if possible. Study atlas 1 hr per day and you can definitely get a B or higher.

Her test are all write in the answer, she is picky about the way you draw your structures. She takes off a lot if points for small mistakes which drag your grade down. Her test have questions that she doesn't prepare you for during her lectures. During office hours she is arrogant and blames student for failure. Take at your own risk.

Beware of Dr. Hessel. her test are 60% what she talks about in lecture and 40% ochem on steroids. She expects students to know what it took her 20+ years to learn. Does not care the amount of effort students put into her class. makes students feel like its them but its that test are not weighed fairly 10-15 Q 4 pts n 5 Q11pt!
