Comment:
Smith was extremely unpleasant, rude to students who disagreed with her opinions on social issues, enjoyed her favorites and enjoyed discussing uncomfortable personal situations regarding herself, friends and family. The class is quite simple, but being forced to spend time with this woman every week is hell. Worst teacher ever.

Virginia is the best teacher I've had in my life. She presented the entire class with challenges that she knew we could surpass. We all worked hard, but most of us truly appreciated her fun attitude and commitment to our success. you would be lucky to have her as a professor

I didn't really like Virginia. She's a little too aggressive, talks about her personal life way too much, and definately plays favorites to the extreme. She was pretty annoying.

i took VS's Contemporary Lit class more than ten years ago, but i still remember that the reading list blew my first-semester freshman mind. i'm glad i had her so early; i was intimidated enough that i didn't mind the condescension, etc.

Virginia is a good teacher, I really enjoyed her class. Class is fun, she's easy to talk to and is very helpful and approachable. That said, she is a tough grader, but if you just ask her for help it won't be a problem, she even let's you re-write papers for a better grade. All in all, good teacher, you'll become a better writer, but have to work.

Some students have claimed that there is more writing and work in their 400 level classes than this 200 level required English course. Lots of worry caused by this class and I still have nightmares from it- no joke. Virginia I must admit is very passionate and intelligent so she knows what she's talking about. But, I would consider another teacher.

if you think your writing was good, get ready for a wake up call! She is a tough grader. Even though she is a tough grader, she gives a lot of extra credit, that is, a full percentage point added to your total grade for each little thing you do. So if you volunteer a lot, you'll do fine. Other than that, the class is fun

Poo to the person below! Virginia Rocks. She's got spunk and passionate about what she teaches. SHe really challenged you to think differently and expand outside your little box. Doesn't always give time for students to say everything they have prepared for presentations or extra credit etc. but still great.Gives a lot of feedback and is with it.

Virginia is awesome! Her class is full of discussion and reading. If you like pop culture, you'll love her Fresman Honors English Class. We read great books and the papers were fun to write. Very easy to talk to. Very eager to help you become a better writer.

She challenged me so much in our postmodern lit class. She pushed me to think. The material was interesting. She offered extra credit and opportunities to revise. She understood me as a person and I'll never forget her. Best teacher I had at Penn State.

virginia is awesome... she's not easy, but it's all how much work you put into it. she's willing to help you if you need it. the best part is the ridiculous amount of bonus points she's willing to give if you do dumb little assignments out of class. regardless, i learned a TON, it was a great class.

There are so many comments on here about her bc she has a profound impact on her students. She IS open-minded but like anyone you have to CONVINCE her of your opinions. One of the only Eng teachers to give extra credit; graded on short papers, particip & group work. Encouraging & passionate; truly wants you to do well; kind &easy to talk to.

Virginia was a very opinionated, very tempermental teacher. Likes to interrupt students while they're talking with her own ideas. Demands a lot out of students for very little payoff. Doesn't like to respond to her emails. It's a required class for English majors...so please, find yourself another professor.

A lot of people on here don't like Virginia-- I remember being in class and watching kids like you whine and drop out early. The truth is that Virginia is 1. a good person, 2. a good teacher, 3. challenging but fair, and in general good at catalyzing you into learning on your own. I wrote a paper on hip hop and got an A, so not closed-minded at all

Viriginia is the rudest, most close-minded, and annoying professor I've ever had. She does not listen to opinions that differ from hers, interrupts you, has a voice that creates headaches, springs huge papers on you, and acts like she is God's gift to the world. I gained NOTHING from her class-avoid it at all costs!
