I took Tasaka Sensei for Japanese 1 years ago. While she was very entertaining, I did very poorly in her class. Taking beginning Japanese is very difficult, but surely there is someone else whom is better suited for this task. Really fun class, and I learned a lot, but not enough to please the professor.

Professor Tasaka is not unintelligent, her english was perfect, and I think she did understand the books well. HOWEVER, it was still the most boring, terrible freshman seminar ever. I dreaded going to that class. The class discussions were very basic, and she never did anything about it & then graded the papers very harshly. DON'T TAKE IT!

WORST FRESHMAN SEMINAR EVER! Her English is terrible so basically we taught each other our own interpretations of the material, and she interjected when she thought necessary. She was a hard grader on the papers and wouldn't tell you why you were losing SO MANY points. I don't even know if she understood half of what she was reading!

She is nice a person, but not great as a professor. Her selections of assigned books seem a little odd.. Many of them are untypicall Japanese novels, and I thought that could teach non-Japanese studnets some wrong ways to appreciate Japanese culture. Her grading system was questionable, although I did ok..

She has no business teaching an English-language literature course at the College. She does not understand theory or critical analysis. My classmates had to dumb themselves down in order to get a grade above a D. I refused to compromise my intelligence. This is was my second class with her and I regret taking both. Avoid for literature courses.

Her grading of papers was ridiculous. She assigned a rubric, but randomly took points from a category if she doesn't like your paper. Also, if you make one mistake, she takes one point off but because it's on a 25 point scale, one point is really worth 5 points. She is nitpicky & the class is boring too. Don't take it!!

If you plan on taking 102, know that the grading is about 10x harder than 101. I was able to slack off a lot in 101 and still get As on everything. In 102, I'm having to try insanely hard for a B. It's not that the material is any harder, it is that the grading is insane. Ganbatte!

Tasaka sensei's class is difficult, and she is a very tough grader. But, unlike Kato sensei, she will not let you get by speaking incorrectly. She will correct you, and she's very helpful in making sure you understand the material. She is very encouraging, and really makes the class exciting.I highly recommend her class!

Fun, laid-back discussion class, though most of the students didn't talk much. Still, she tried, and the discussion on Tanizaki (and "ecchi") was one of the most hilarious classes ever. She's sincerely interested in helping kids... and just adorably Japanese.

Tasaka-sensei is great. the class loves her b/c she's hilarious but also a good professor. she's quite laid back and very kind to students. the class is still difficult (obviously; it's japanese) but she's ready to help. take her!
