Best teacher at UCSC hands down. Incredibly smart and well spoken. Compared to some of the other professors who so obviously hate their jobs, wally is refreshing in that he actually enjoys, and is knowledgable about what he is talking about. Awesome to talk to one on one and very helpful. Great teacher.

Class fulfills its purpose: intro to LA studies. I don't agree that midterm was hard, but not trivial. Final paper wasn't trivial either. Class would have been better if it was taught by Delgado, but this class was plagued by two things. Initial professor was forced to stop teaching the course and the new one was forced to use old syllabus.

He took over for J.Palafox (who was horrible)when he left.He realized that Palafox gave us a ton of reading and cut it down.that was good.He was entertaining and smart, but his lectures were pretty boring.this class was a disaster form the beg. too many guest lectures.hard midterm+section+12 page final paper=your grade.Courtney was a great TA

Awful teacher- makes the classroom a place where a student does not want to be in, is very condescending, thinks he knows everything in the world. An elitist. Worst professor I ever had

I have an engineering degree and didn't spend too much time on the humanities, but Goldfrank was extremely memorable. I very highly recomend him, a true thinker and educator. He is sharp, and doesnt tolerate righteous inexperienced hippies. And he worke

Wally is the man! I learned more in my final Sociology class than during all of Freshman year. He kept the class interested with moderately difficult material. I think most people in the class would agree that Wally should stick around for a while

Pros: friendly and fairly easy-going... funny character in class, easy to talk to out of class. Cons: he's also got his jaded intellectual side - he can be quite condescending, and his material is taught from a strictly structuralist point of view, which doesn't take into account the potential of people to change or to do things differently.

Lectures were unnecessary to attend. Do the reading and go to sections, and you'll be fine. It was like he was having a party on stage, and we weren't invited. Wally was nice outside of class and more than willing to make conversation.

This was such a boring class, especially the lectures. The first book was bad, but the second one was pretty good. He can be funny, but he can also be very cocky.

Provides an interesting way of looking at the world. You will not get this kind of education anywhere but Santa Cruz. It was a valuable course in my overall education. But, it was very fast paced for an intro class and he was hard to follow.

He's a good teacher overall, but doesn't go out of his way to help students. He's definitely arrogant and assured that he's a little too good (with his ivy league education) to teach S.C. kids. But I would take his class again all the same.
