I majored in Linguistics at UCD and had Professor Benware for a few classes. By far, he was my favorite professor! The man knows his stuff. He knows what the students need to learn and he teaches them to that. He is incredibly helpful. According to the Linguistics Department Autum 2007 newsletter, he has retired.

this class is hard point blank, but professor benware is a kind guy, he will take the time to go over with you anything you do not understand, but do not miss a day of lecture in this class, you can fall behind easily. Linguistics is not an easy subject, but it should not affect his rating, he teaches well, but the material is not easy. You can pas

A little hard to follow at first because he's so professional, and uses terminology not everyone would understand. But VERY VERY helpful, always offers his own time. Not easy though. But he's so kind.

As always Benware provided an interesting class with his usual metric ton of evidence and example data. Definatly a man who knows his subject and really, you can't beat the professorial look and the sometimes wry delivery of information

Good god is this class a bore. Keep up with lecture and take notes on the little things he discusses at the end of class. Stay awake. It can be very difficult to catch up if you fall behind, make sure that your essays are well done also. No ****ing this man

Professor Benware is the quintessential professor. Every university needed someone like him! He is a very nice, intellectual man, though he can be sort of intimidating for that reason. He is not the easiest grader, but he gives you some oppotunities for ex. credit. NO TESTS! All assignments (including midterm/final) are take-home. Awesome course!

Although I received an A in this class, I have to say that he should be more prepared and more demanding. It is also clear that he favors those who have a strong background in linguistics. I wish he would go beyond an elementary school approach. This is a university course!!!

I've had Prof. Benware for a few classes and whenever I see him the word "Oxford" pops into my head. He is talented, kind, helpful, and commited as a teacher. I hope he continues to teach for many years to come.

Benware is a great professor! He knows his stuff, and is really good at explaining it. Gives you almost verbatim test questions in advance. Make study groups to go over them! Do the reading! Go to class!
