Professor Bowman is a joy to work with. He is incredibly helpful in providing feedback on papers, and conducts classes wonderfully. You definitely can not slack in doing the reading though, as discussion is 90% of the class time. I would definitely have him again as a professor.

Excellent Professor. His knowledge is incredible and he is extremely enthusiastic about the material and wants the students to learn. I liked that we get to choose out paper topics. Not an overwhelming amount of reading , but reading every class. Go to class! It will hurt you if you don't. He may give a pop quiz and you only can make up one so go

I miss him! Just seeing him lecture during freshman year convinced me to major in history. I stayed in touch with him for years after graduation...miss the guy and his classes! Went to Russia with him and had a blast too!

he makes everyone sign in every day and there are 3 absences. he calls on everyone so do the readings. participation counts 10 or 15%. the readings for every class range from 15 to 100 pages. very good class, learned a lot. great professor who really cares. 2 papers about 5 pages each. 1 midterm, 1 cumm final. there are 5-6 pop quizzes.

Great guy, really flexible, gets really excited about WWII and anything to do with Germany and the German language. He loves making random lines on the board. But great guy, obviously loves teaching, and he's very knowledgable. You will never ever finish all the reading he assigns. Its a difficult class but required, so take it with him if you can

Best Professor I've had here at Gettysburg. Kind, caring, and always willing to help. His classes are a bit difficult, but you'd be doing yourself a disservice by staying away. If you are at all interested in history, do yourself a favor and take one of his classes.

Great class! It follows a "read and discuss" format, meaning that most of the class is full of student contributions. The workload isn't unmanagable but there's a lot of reading to do. Bowman is great, though; he's very helpful and makes the classes really interesting.

SO NICE!! Funny, slightly dorky, but never annoying, always keeps a good flow going with the class, the students essentially teach the class and he just guides and suppliments. He is very fair and essentially just expects your best, not the impossible
