He is very misunderstood. Who complains about writing one paper? I loved his class. He is brilliant and makes you think about life. If you know George Orwell at all you are set! You just have to read the material in your book and talk about in class. If he didn`t give you a good grade on your paper just talk to him.

Worst professor I have ever had! I litterally dreaded going to his class which was intro to lit. Pretty sure EVERYONE received an A in his class even a girl who told me straight up that she only wrote 1 of the 5 essays required all semester where as I slaved away on them because the teacher was so crazy that I never knew what to expect! Don't take!

I firmly believe that Dr. Brown is, irritatingly, misunderstood. While it is easy to pass his course, a student must be willing to put in the effort to learn the complex information that he is offering. He is a wealth of information. Most certainly a very intelligent mentor, if one can make the effort to analyze his rhetoric.

So the first couple days of class all he could do wax talk about the syllabus. Granted, this put us behind. Then he spends all of the classes off topic and making no sense. He mumbles ALL THE TIME and is impossible to understand. When he does review for the tests he gives a need to know list with everything in the book and nothing from the test!!!

Listened to everything except English topics. I really like English, but this teacher was awful! Supposed to have been 4 papers due, according to the syllabus, but he only got to assigning one paper; which was never handed back. Felt I got screwed by taking this class; although, I did get an arbitrary A.

Nice guy, interested in helping his students, really knows literature, but brings up sexual stuff in class all the time. It gets very irritating. If you take his class, pay no attention to the syllabus. He won't follow it. And SHOW UP! Make a couple comments, and listen to everything he says to change on your papers, and you will get an A.

Brown is a good teacher but you have to pay attention. Homework amounts to about 1-2 papers but he expects them to be good. Showing up to class with the textbook is a must otherwise he gets kinda mad. The textbook for the class is The Norton Anthology of Short Fiction.

Didn't care if he made people uncomfortable and want to drop the class. Enjoyed the dicussion of religious and political hot topics more than English anything (except maybe Melville). I really didn't learn anything in this class, he didn't teach.

Brown was unconventional and his syllabus changed almost daily, but he is willing to do whatever it takes for you to get a good grade. His office hours help alot. If you don't want to attend class don't take him, he is a stickler about attendance!

The most unorganized teacher i have had...ever. His course outline which we got 3 weeks after class started is very unclear and we are no where near where we are supposed to be. I should have dropped the class. IMO the worst class i have had a Mesa State.

Or should I say Politics 112? When Brown talks of classic literature, the class is a delight... But (like in life) when political rhetoric enters the scene, it becomes rather heated. Other than the political chatter, this class is a lot of fun!
