Comment:
Professor Corlett is a professor who sets high expectations for his students. That being said, he offers plenty of opportunities inside and outside of the classroom for his students to get to know and understand the material before they are given an assignment on it. Definitely one of the best professors I've had at Bates.

Teaches very complex and tough material. Would often go on long philisophical tangents during class lectures. However, very accessible professor who encourages you to think about political philosophy in ways you didn't imagine before.

I really enjoyed the course. Professor Corlett is very smart. I learned a plethora of information. There are ungraded weekly writing assignments and group projects. I would recommend taking Western Political Theory with Professor Corlett if possible! You must put the time and effort into the course to get the most out of it.

Amazing professor, made my Bates experience life-changing. He's harsh in terms of work; you just need to read well and think a lot.

He... is confusing. But I enjoy his class very much. Students new to him need time to adjust to his peculiar pedagogy. I can never get a straight answer from him; maybe this is how to make us think. Yet, I feel like we still need to play with his seemingly random ideas. I worked my ass off to finally get an A in his class... But I learned a lot.

Bill is hands down my favorite professor at Bates. He is so incredibly smart and knows how to push you to your academic limits; that said, I think he could be tough if you don't try to understand what he is getting at or pay attention. He is always available to toss around new ideas and I think really likes it when students come to office hours.

The fact that Bill Corlett is being described as hot 30 years after I took a course with him is a bit disturbing. :-)That said, he was an inspiring prof. and now that my son is attending Bates I'm encouraging him to take a course with Corlett.

I took Mr. Corlett's class his first year at Bates College almost 30 years ago. Nice, intelligent, thoughtful man. A credit to Bates College then and now (at least, given the comments I suspect that to be the case). Wishing him many more years of health and teaching excellence.

Bill is the man. However... the one class I took with him was hard to describe. 191 was very difficult for a 100-level. He's a bit too smart for me, goes over my head. Good luck getting a straight answer out of him too... he likes to talk in circles in an effort to get you to come to your own conclusions. He's a great guy tough, still loves 2 teach

Had Corlett for Pltc 151 and 295-he's amazing;great sense of humor. West. Pol. Theory was much more interesting than Reading Marx. Great class discussions and even better ones outside of the class among students. Both classes relied really heavily on reading short texts; sizable amount of work, but it was manageable and interesting.
