Yes, there's a lot of reading involved in this class-it's a Shakespeare class, what do you expect? There is a lot of sexual discussion, but Shakespeare's plays are full of sex. Show up to class, read the plays carefully. I recommend Sparknotes, it'll help you to understand the plays on your first read-through. Very enjoyable class, loved Godshalk.

He does take attendance. Show up. It doesn't hurt to listen to what he has to say because it might end up on a quiz. When you ask him a question-he is very blunt so he's not always helpful. I used Spark Notes and ended up with an A.

Professor Godshalk is not as bad as everyone says. All he wants you to do is show up for class and participate. If you do both of those things, you will be fine. I actually really enjoyed his class. He does talk about sex a lot, but he also has insightful views to talk about when it comes to Shakespeare.

Godshalk is a nice guy butentirely too much reading and you have to memorize everything because he quizzes you over who said what when. Also, if you fail the final quiz, you fail the class regardless of how well you did all quarter. More interested in failing a student than passing. Avoid at all costs.

This megalomaniac has married 8 or 9 of his grad students, and sadly is not nearly the genius he thinks he is. Other than that, his only interests involve telling people precisely how they are total failures before they even begin. Avoid this disturbing old creep

Godshalk is a great professor. I love that we had class discussions instead of just reading what other people think. Participate! Make sure you read, pop quizzes occur semi-frequently. The final quiz was ok, just be sure to attend review sessions and ask questions. The final paper was hard to write -- topics were broad. He is willing to help - ask.

Had him years ago and his name still haunts me. I am assuming he is one of those bar rats that is completely dissatisfied with his life. Likes to think of himself as some sort of mental giant when he is really just a ****ed twit. Literally obsessed with homosexuality. Heard loads of rumors that he has sexually harassed a number of students.Awful

unpredictable grading pattern -- seemed to just give me what he felt i deserved with no mathematical rhyme or reason to it. entirely too much reading -- college class or not.

I was quite honestly very creeped out. He constantly talks about sex and it's unnecessary. Also, I approached him because I had a quiz grade missing and he told me that I couldn't prove I turned it in and refused to tell me what to do to prove I took the quiz. The grading is easy though, and the work isn't that bad.

I really did not enjoy this professor. He was extremely biased and would mock anyone that had a different opinion. If you have opinions that are not liberal and atheist, do not take this course. His grading scale is unpredictable so you have no idea what grade you will get.

I have had this professor for the second time this quarter, and it is always interesting. He is unlike any other teacher I have had. For the most part, he is a nice guy, loves what he does, and tries to get the students to love it too. However, it is too much reading, even for college, and his grading scale is a little unpredictable.

I've had Godshalk for Survey of British Lit before, and I enjoyed him more as a Shakespeare instructor. Our dicussions of the texts were scattered and unpredictable, but his study guide aided my comprehension.

I absolutely love his class! True, there is a lot of reading, but it is all really interesting and never dull. Even in class, there is never a dull moment. He makes the discussions entertaining, and seems to really care about his students.

The reading load is heavy, so I don't think I'd recommend taking him if you're not an English major. He really does make Shakespeare interesting, which sometimes does involve talking about sex and criminal behavior, but really it's not so disgusting or provocative that you'll feel uncomfortable. I think he's friendly but intimidating.

I had him for Brit Lit. He's a very easy A, but I don't recommend him to anyone who's actually looking to learn. Class can be entertaining, but not informative. Too bad he has tenure and will never leave, because he is a pretty sub-par teacher.

Godshalk had a reputation which I had heard about before taking his class, and he lived up to it in the best way. He challenges you to think outside the box and to back up everything you say with very good, solid evidence. He takes attendance, and he's not going to give you an easy A, but if you work hard, you will get a lot out of his class.

I liked Godshalk a lot & he always said funny things to get the class to laugh. The textbook is used a lot, but he goes over the important items that are needed to know for the final & even gives you a study guide, so as long as you study, you'll be ok. He'll meet w/you and is very willing to comment on your paper before it is due. Super Nice Guy!
