Comment:
The most important thing in this class is to pay attention during lecture, take really good notes, and ask questions as soon as they pop up. Seriously professor Rochlin does NOT make this class easy, and you have to stay on top of things and active to do well. Usually doing well on a quiz is a good gage, be prepared to really study!

Dr. Rochlin did NOT teach a capstone class how it should be taught. He expects us to know research based methods, rushes through lecture without giving us time to take notes, was extremely difficult when it came to exams, and treated us like graduate students. While he is a very smart man, he has no understanding how unreasonable his class is.

Shouldn't be teaching this class, he should be teaching a biology 400 level. This class was by far the hardest class for no reason. No reason for exams to be the way they are, the tests make you lose everything you thought you knew. Don't take this class.

Dr. Rochlin is an intelligent professor who expects a level of interest and dedication from his students. I am an A student, but I never had to work this hard before. He truly makes you understand and connect concepts in ways I have never been taught. Take this class if you really want to learn to think critically. Greatest professor by far!

exams are tough but totally doable. he gives lots of extra credit on the exams. curves heavily. A- starts at 84. he holds his students to a very high standard. To do well, record all lectures and re-listen them 2-3 times before the exam. Be active in class. No textbook necessary. He is approachable, but can be mean at times.

Powerpoints miss vital information, seamlessly so you wont notice unless you give your undivided attention. i.e note taking is hard. Expects you to talk but is extremely condescending. Test are incomprehensible being that he tries to sound smart so he word things very oddly. If you have the option, save yourself the stress and take someone else.

PowerPoints are put online with missing content to make it harder for those who miss class. Uses full terms in one part of the slide, then weird abbreviations later. Slides are full of paragraphs. Tests feel like they're master's level. Monotone, creeky voice got really old really fast. Condescending if you answer a question wrong in class.

I feel like i was in a plane crash and the foreign land i landed in is this cell bio class. I dont dwell on monotone professors - if i can read the book and still pass. That's not the case - tests (that are beyond hard class average is around 60%) are purely lecture based. Book does not help - if you have to take him record and relisten x100

Dr. Rochlin is a great guy. Terrible Cell Bio Professor. I walked out of his class learning nothing. He is beyond boring during lecture making it hard to stay awake. His exams are beyond difficult and beyond what he taught you. He words things very difficultly. Do not take him. I am an A student and got a C.

Dr. Rochlin is very smart and cares about challenging his students. This is NOT an easy class and will demand a lot of your time, but will prepare you for the future. Begin doing everything as early as possible especially reading papers for your presentations. DO NOT wait till the last minute if you care about your grade. Study hard and youll be ok

He's a nice guy to talk to one on one. I had a break down and he gave good advice and wished me luck. But he's honestly a bad teacher. He'll make fun of you for getting the wrong answer during participation and his lectures are put online incomplete just as an unnecessary challenge to students. That's this class: unnecessarily challenging.

Hands down hardest professor I've had at Loyola. He expects more out of you than most of the teachers you'll ever get, but he means well by doing so. He expects you to grow as a person and know how to critically think. DO NOT slack off or you will struggle greatly.

Rochilin is the toughest Cell Biology professor at this school. I learned a lot to be fair, but my grade did not reflect that. His tests and quizzes are meant to challenge students knowledge, but he just asks questions that are poorly worded. He wants to make students apply their knowledge, which I think is great, but he simply does not succeed.

Dr. Rochlin knows his stuff. He explains everything he wants his students to know very clearly. Assuming students know general chemistry and biology, they should be able to follow the content well if they try hard. He gives recommendations on how students should study, which work very well. He gives sample questions, which are helpful as well.

The definition of a hard class. Exams feel overly complicated and grading seems biased. The course was interesting and very in depth which was great but was overshadowed by the exams he gave out. I've compared and contrasted with peers in Cell Biology and its not even close to the same level. He holds his students to a very advanced level of bio.

Dr. Rochlin is the best professor I've had at Loyola. He wants to develop your critical thinking, not memorizing, skills, and he structures tests and lectures around this. A lot of students hate him because his class isn't an easy A- it's not bad if you just show up and study. He's a super nice and caring guy, he's always available if you need help

I took him a few semesters ago and after taking a few more rigorous courses, its official this was one of the hardest classes i've ever taken. Barely made a C and i had put a lot of hours into this course. he's a good guy but the class is just super hard.
