I absolutely like his class. Although he could be strict sometimes, he is really understanding when you email him or talk to him separately. He does drop you if you are absent or tardy three times but its because class goes pretty fast and he wouldnt want his students to be stuck behind. My English changed dramatically thanks to him.

Professor Young is definitely more for an advanced students. The classes are largely based on the readings from homework - it is also the classes shortcoming since from all 20 student who show up it is usually the same people who participate. Definitely recommend if you are trying to improved your writing stylistically.

The worst English prof you can get. Gives away most C's even on essays you worked extremely hard at, will nitpick small details to attempt to make the grade look deserving. Not recommended even if good at English. Boring lectures. Narrow-minded-don't take a stance he won't enjoy or you're bound to fail, just avoid at all cost.

One of the toughest English prof's I've ever taken but WORTH IT, an amazing reading list and fantastic feedback. My first and only Bs were on his essays. If you're an English major this class is a must have.

Sorry but I didn't like his class at all, he is such a tough grader and really expects a lot for the papers. Even though I worked my butt off for all his papers, I kept on receiving C's. What I can say is that the things he made us read were interesting, but that's about it. Oh and don't skip class, 3 absences and HE WILL DROP YOU

English is my strong suit, but Professor Young was far too difficult of a grader. I just could not seem to impress this guy. His class is not bad and he is not a bad teacher, but I am sure there are better English teachers at SMC.

Professor young is not helpful. Assigns work from textbook but doesn't explain anything, can't miss more than three classes or you'll be dropped. Must always have textbook. Lectures are very boring, hardly gives any felt lost 80% of the time

Two in class essays, description paper, and research paper worth two grades. I loved this class, Mr. Young is a tough grader yet lenient at the same time. For every homework/quiz you complete goes toward improving your grade. Attendance is a must or you will be dropped and no more than 3 tardies. Learned a lot and would recommend his class.

Professor Young is the laziest professor ever. Talking, he said if he doesn't know the subject he pretends like he does and it's for the good of the class. He refuses to review papers until turned in for a grade. Last essay he refused to explain MLA format. As a result, a few students wrote the paper wrong. He then said it's worth 2 essays.

Professor Young is funny in his own way. Gives great history on the Author's of the work and some good context as well. Expects you to know your stuff. Will give you help and feedback, but you have to ask for it. Tough grader when it comes to papers, and get ready to read read read! Enjoyable, but difficult at the same time. Attendance is a must!

He was very intentional in the readings and books he chose. If you pay careful attention, there is so much to learn in his lectures. His class is actually more like a discourse than a lecture. Each lesson builds on another, encouraging you to think deeper and critically. I learnt so much from him.

Pretty funny and witty guy. Honestly a pretty difficult class, DO NOT TAKE IT if you are not strong in English and have no motivation to improve. Above and beyond harsh about attendance. Gives you opportunities to go over major papers with him and ask questions after class. Very interesting class. Loved it. Favorite teacher this semester.

Attendance is a must. You can't be late or he will drop you from the class also if you don't have the books with you. 5 essays. a research paper for mid term. He expects you to already know what you're doing so he won't go into details; he just tells you what to expect. He's a tough grader, not an easy A. He said so himself, he rarely gives A's.

Young is educated, and has a passion for English. MANDATORY ATTENDANCE! His classroom environment can be a bit dry and boring at times but his work isn't too hard. Five grades total, all writing assignments which he grades fairly, but not easily. He's very approachable in his office hours, and is very willing to work with you to get a good grade!

Attendance and books mandatory, he will mark you off for that. He is somewhat narrow minded, so I wouldn't suggest going against his beliefs in essays, especially if you only need his class for the grade. I think he might have bias for younger girls, I got an A when all my essays were very last minute.

Completely irrational on attendance. People were minutes late and he marks EVERY minute you are late and counts it towards of total of mins late. Grades SUPER hard. Tore my paper apart bc he didn't "agree" with my stance. Said I'd prob get a B (I'm a 3.5 student at a CSU) when I took this thinking it would be an easy A. Crappy way to spend a summer
