Comment:
Not a good course. The grading curve was not adjusted and he made a lot of changes in this course from this time on wards. I wouldn't suggest taking this course. Teaching is very bad and grading is not transparent. 6 Homework with almost no weight age. Didn't learn much in the class.

Prof is Ok, but Grading criteria are bad. TA won't give partial marks even if you are 90% right.

I really enjoyed CSE 531 class. He is very dedicated person and tries hard to teach. A very humble person and answer to all questions patiently. He gives good and tough home works, which prepared well for exams. It was one of the best decision I made to took his class.

1. Outstanding lecture slides. 2. Outstanding exam plan (effectively 4 midterms and 1 open-book final exam). Believe me, this is way better than 1 midterm and 1 final exam. 3. Outstanding homework. Don't cheat, study well, and do homework on your own. What you learn will prove to be a goldmine.

His slides are very good. Most of the questions in exams are from previous papers making the scoring very easy.

Very difficult accent to pick up. Algorithms are very important for a computer science guy and do not take this if you want to learn. Get ready for self study

You have to read a lot. Lot of homework is given with barely any weightage for it. The grading curve punishes you really bad even if you screw up even one exam.

Course was tough, but I expected that. Material and homework load was high. Language was a bit tough at times, but would recommend this teacher. Was fair, and course was, in hindsight, very good.

Xin He (Roger) really knows his stuff, and his slides are very informative and helpful. His accent is very hard to get used to, though. But once you learn how to understand him, the class isn't hard. Just do the homework, and the quizzes are almost identical. The tests are also very similar to the quizzes and homework.

Comment:
It's a difficult course and a lot of proof/reasoning, so it's going to be hard to understand/stay focused no matter who is teaching. His accent isn't horrible (you get used to it), and he writes everything out anyways. His exams can be difficult even with a cheat sheet. Homework is difficult too. Nice guy who is very helpful though.

Roger. He has one of the worst accents in the department. He's not a good lecturer, but hes a super nice guy and hes very smart. I would recommend taking a class with him if you can deal with very very heavy accents and reading the book a lot to do well.

Dr. He is really helpful, takes time to listen to what you have to say even when you are completely wrong. Little tough to understand what he says in class. But his slides are great and helped me a lot for my interviews.

The professor is very kind. Dr. He is so accommodative in listening to you if you have any issues regarding grades, problems, etc. Enjoyed taking his class since the topics covered prepared me well for interviews . The lecture notes were also crisp and very clear.

Ah...Roger (what he likes to be called) is an interesting man. His accent is very difficult to understand at first, but if you continually attend class you get used to it, and the stuff at the beginning of the semester is easy, so it doesn't matter if you understand him immediately anyways. Good professor, but mustendure through boredom for an A.

Very hard to understand because he has a very thick accent. However, his lecture notes are laid out very well and correspond beautifully with the homework. If you can do the homework, you'll be fine for the test. Can't blame him for having an accent, may not be a good lecturer, but he is a smart man and makes up for it in his slides/curriculum.

Good luck. By far one of the worse teachers I have had. Can't understand him as he mindlessly goes through the slides on the power point and somehow expects you to understand all of C++ in a short period of time.

He is hard to understand because of his english but you get used to it. However, if you are not good at math do not bother. His C++ projects are very tough.
