His class is very lecture heavy and he is extremely liberal. He grades you on three papers and attendance but he doesn't knock you too hard for missing classes. That being said, you cannot read his handwriting AT ALL, so if you're looking for feedback, you will have to go to his office hours.

I had this professor three times. The first two times there were only 3 papers, I would show up participate a few times and I got an A. The third time he gave about 6 writing prompts on top of a midterm and 10 page paper. I did all of the assignments and got a C because of attendance. He has no grading criteria so heres a warning!

Magrass is an underrated teacher probably because a lot of people don't agree with how liberal he is, but you don't have to agree he really likes class debates! He won't yell at people to get off their phone or force participation, but to guarantee a good grade make yourself known! No tests, quizzes, or homework, only 3 papers the whole semester

Magrass was a great professor and very liberal. The whole class was very lecture and debate heavy. He lets the students run most of the class which can be fun at times. no homework, tests, or quizzes. Only 3 essays per semester on what we discuss in class. People that speak up ad are known to him tend to get better grades.

No grading rubric, no letter grades or percentages just: "could be better" or "good". He loves C's. He had a stroke so his handwriting is not legible and his speech is slurred so it is difficult to understand him. You WILL NOT understand the feedback he puts on your work so seeing him outside of the class is basically required/ not flexible.

Professor Magrass is amazing, and a true Progressive! I thoroughly enjoyed his quirky, unconventional style of teaching, and he really helped develop my ideas further. If you're not interested in what's going on in society right now (massive wealth inequality, intense militarism, etc.) then you probably won't enjoy the class. I loved it.

If you are in any way politically conservative, you will be miserable during every lecture. You will engage in extreme liberal banter for the entire hour with your peers. Daily. At least 5 of his students are loyal liberal followers who he allows to direct discussions. He doesn't explore both sides. That's not proper teaching/learning.

Great professor, he is very passoinate about this class and the topics. He assigned one 10 page research paper and two 5 paged papers which he gives you excepts and has you answer questions which is pretty easy! Its important that you go to class even if you dont participate that much!

This guy was all over the place, which wouldn't be a big deal if his lectures weren't so important. There's no homework or tests. Literally just two 5 page papers and one 10 page final paper.

One of the best professors I have ever had. He doesn't believe in grades or lectures in a traditional sense, but if you are open minded and really listen to what he has to say and participate then you'll do good in the class. He assigns short papers through out the semester and if you go to the lectures and take notes then you'll get a good grades.

Unless you are a political science major I would not recommend this class. Lectures are painful to sit through. His writing is chicken scratch. Three papers and a final. hard grader. First three papers are opinionated but are contradictory. Attendance is mandatory. I wrote all three papers and put in an effort and got an F

This professor changed my life. He is the reason I'm pursuing a graduate degree. I ended up taking many of his classes. He is so passionate and really educated about these topics. Many students fail because they don't want to be open minded or hear the truth, and because they want to sleep during class and not do the simple papers. Easy.

I'd recommend this class to any person who really wants to have no idea what is going on in a class, but wants an easy A. I made a drinking game out of his class, so that was a plus.

Awesome teacher. He teaches in a way to make you think. He doesn't just give you the answers. Be open minded, attend class and do the way work. You will get an A. Ask for help when you need it. The readings pertain to the paper questions and class discussions so if you read you know what he's talking about

Got an A in this class... not sure how. I showed up to about half the classes, however I did participate heavily when I was there. My advice is to raise your hand ALOT, so he knows your name. Also no hw ever, just a HUGE paper at the end of the semester. Pretty easy and his lectures are pretty interesting. Dont go against his opinion in your paper.

whatever you do, do not disagree with this guy. If you do disagree with him he will fail you. He went through an entire semester not knowing my name and it was the second time i was in his class.

I took his political sociology class, it was extremely boring. First off I purchased about 7 books one which he was the author of, but we didnt use any. The class lectures had nothing to do with the assignments given. Many students would sign in and leave or just fall asleep. Also my advisor who did anything but advise me!

Ok so this is a professor that will force his views upon his students. The students that he realizes don't believe in his view he will fail. This is an easy class; however, it is simply one-sided. Also this class is about as boring as watching paint dry.
