Comment:
Lin was a good teacher, but he wasn't always 100% clear with teaching or with grading. Almost everyone gets a good grade and he fudges some numbers if you are close to another letter grade higher. He is a really nice guy and teaches an easy class, I'd recommend him over most of the other CSC teachers.

The easiest professor at NOVA. Proud of him. Give 7 assignment if you don't know how to finish them, just go and ask Professor Lin. He will do it for you. I felt sad to hear about he will be retired after this semester. BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!!

He is a good professor. I only took a single credit course, so there wasn't much to the class. He is a nice guy who is willing to help you if you need any. His accent may be a little hard to follow for some, but if you ask, he will clear anything up. He is a good choice for computer science.

This was a challenging course. Computer Science is NOT for everyone. Prof. Lin requires students to work extremely hard to master the concepts of Data Structures and programming. He is always available and very helpful during his office hours. If you can't program by now or you are lazy, don't bother. Lin is the best CSC Prof at Nova. Period.

The class is super hard, the average is usually 20%, the tests and assignment worth a lot of point, if you miss one, then you are done. The midterm and final are closed notes and it's on paper! it's so ridiculously difficult, the assignments are unclear and he is not will to help. If you are struggling he will tell you to drop. Dont take, Good Luck

This class is no longer part of the CS curriculum but it was really great with Prof Lin. He is very willing to help and really wants his students to succeed. He basically never used the textbook except as a reference, you wont need it much. He teaches very clearly and I thoroughly enjoyed being in his class. Would take again!

Goodluck is all I have to say. He is absolutely useless when it comes to helping a student. He will teach his class and then that's about where his efforts stop. If you know the information before going into the class, you will be alright, but if you don't -- go with another professor.

From 2014 Spring, he changes his rule. No open book and notes for Mid and Final tests. You should spend a lot of time for this class. If you read a textbook, it might be easy class for you, but his assignments and tests are challenge.

This is a development class, so you need to take it seriously. Sometimes he didn't know what is he talking about. Should not take him in high level programming class.

He is such a great teacher! He has an accent but you'll get used to it, he is clear when explaining! & he is also very funny. I enjoyed being in his class. If you feel lost at any point. just ask him! He is very helpful! Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you miss class, there is a high possibility that you might not understand the assignments.

If you are someone who struggled to pass CSC 130 because you were first learning java, DO NOT TAKE HIM. I found the assignments to be very hard, however most of the time he was fair at grading them. The class can be very easy for those that feel confortable with java but I would say to take another professor if you really want to learn the material

with this professor I mostly had to learn by myself. If i had any questions he would help me out. He is very nice and helpful but if you're serious about computer science and want to learn a lot then i recommend someone else. Some assignments he didn't prepare us enough however i managed to figure it out on my own. Overall i would recommend him.

The course is very challenging, it requires a lot of practice and reading to understand all the programming basics, professor Lin was very helpful, he cares about his students and is always in a good mood, the final is open book, open notes, if it wasn't for him I would of failed the class for sure! So I highly recommend him!

Great Prof. He's a very intelligent man, knows his subject, and helps keep you interested even during some of the more dry beginning parts of the subject with his good sense of humor and general enthusiasm. Most importantly, he genuinely cares about his students both personally and academically.

Just finished this class for summer 2012 first six weeks. Easiest class ever. Got a 106%. Note that I was taking 3 other classes in addition to this class. Mr. Lin is too easy. I just let the engineer next help me. I RARELY showed up. He gives TOO much extra credit. TAKE HIM

Make sure you hand in all assignments and when taking his test make sure you study his programs hard because the book and online will not help you. He didnt curve our test grades either. Lectures are boring but make an effort to pay attention. An A is difficult but not impossible.

I did not do much work in class and was not inerested in the class - had to retake it. If you want to learn CSC he is very knowledgeable, but if like in my case the class was weak he is dragging the material for weeks, can bring assignments late, little work, but exam you have to know wat to program, for exams gives study guides and test is on it.
