I did not like her very much in the first class i took with her but she didn't like me a lot either but i'm in my second class with her and we both seem to like each other a lot better, she is hard but french isn't supposed to be easy and she has a good way of making sure you learn things and she's pretty nice once you get to know her.

Apparently the other reviewers think languages classes are meant to be easy. I had to put in the effort for this class but Prof. Halka is incredibly helpful! She wants to make sure you succeed and work hard. If you put in the effort she will reciprocate the effort by being available to you when you have questions or problems.

Halka is a very difficult teacher, and, as others have stated, often shows blatant favoritism. She is very quick to call you out on errors and often in very harsh ways. She is not very helpful either. She just expects you to go home and study more rather than provide any real help. I'm glad this is the only class I have to take from her.

Good professor. Very willing to help in her office hours: she once helped me correct my pronunciation for over an hour even though I hadn't scheduled. Kind, reasonably understanding, and challenging in a good way. Does tend to show slight favoritism, though, but likes those who speak up in class.

shes a pretty good teacher and i like her. I just wish she would be more clear on what she wants us to do. We are french students and we understand that you want us to speak french but please go over some things in english as well as french so we know whats going on!

While you do learn from her, she can be very inconsiderate. She told me to quit my job and stop paying my bills in order to study more, even though I get a's on 90% of my assignments. She makes you feel like you are going to fail. I love French but I can't wait to finish this class.

Yes, you have to work, but that's the only way to learn a language! She is very funny and interesting, and always willing to help if you just *ask* her. She and Conway are two of the best possible ladies you could have for French.

I love Madame Halka! She has been so helpful to me both about French and about school in general. She is funny and interesting if you are interested in really learning to speak French. You do have to actually do the work to get a good grade in her class.
