This was Short Narrative, a creative writing class. i think sometimes how enjoyable this class can be is based on the group of people in the class with you. I feel lucky to have had a great group and a great professor who gave great readings and great feedback. Schwartz is really in his element in the creative writing classroom.

This was a creative non-fiction course that changed my life. From the thoughtfully chosen readings to the thorough feedback on the pieces I produced to Professor's Schwartz's expansive, engaging lectures--it was amazing. I would take it a hundred times if I could. The best course I took during my time at Wellesley.

I took an introductory writing course with Professor Schwartz my first semester at Wellesley; the class was almost entirely women of color, not by our choosing, and he was the first professor to say, frankly, has anyone talked to you guys about race? His candor was greatly appreciated. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Adam Schwartz truly loves teaching. He chooses thought-provoking texts to study and always encourages his students to think deeply about the meaning of fiction in our lives. He takes the time to think about each individual student and is always around to answer questions.

he's more helpful in private meetings than in class, but he is a genuinely nice professor. he doesn't judge your drafts and he's very very very forgiving of people's grammar and punctuation mistakes. Once you realize that he's not interested in tricking you by telling you to write informally, the class can be a lot of fun.

He was the most unhelpful professor I have ever had. When providing feedback about a paper, he would not contribute at all! The whole point of the class is to improve your writing skills, yet I learned nothing about being a better writer. Not clear at all about his expectations for the class and papers.

Comment:
When offering feedback on a writing assignment of my college career, he said it was poorly written because I was a minority. As a minority (his words), I would face special challenges because I wasn't taught proper English in schools. It was an extremely insensitive and discriminatory thing to say. The worst part is that my story is common with him

Possibly the most boring class I took while at Wellesley. It was completely misrepresented in the class description and he did nothing to encourage discussion or to improve the quality of my writing. I got absolutely nothing out of his class.

Schwartz is awesome. He definitely made my first year experience worth rememebering. His classes are very discussion heavy, he didn't require any books to buy and he was very helpful during individual conferences. I recommend everyone take a class with him. It's definitely worth it!
