Comment:
An easy class with an awful prof. He's very dull and very confusing. He makes simple topics seem overwhelming (e.g. factor analysis). If you are good at learning on your own from textbook and lecture slide, then you can do really well. It's easy midterms/final and a fair paper that is good experience. Just don't expect interesting class

Comment:
The other reviewers are correct in saying that he has a real "sleeper" effect, and that most of the material is awfully boring. However, the tests are fair and all information is on the slides. The hidden gem of this class is that Baker guides students in writing an APA style paper - a must for any psych researcher to be! Important experience IMO.

He has a "sleeper effect" (pun intended). He will seem really boring at first, but towards the end you realise the class is very do-able. His paper isn't bad at all and his exams are aceable.

Worst course ever. Turns simple concepts into a sea of noise. Terrible powerpoint slides. Text book is a collection of self-promoting irrelevant information about what this small group of people contributed to the field. Don't believe that the final exam is like the mid-terms! It's not ! Avoid this course if you can !

Unless you truly care about IQ testing and insignificant correlations between tests, stay away from PSYC 310. Professor is okay, but the class (and texbook) seem to require a significant background in the topic if you want to follow, which makes it difficult. Not to mention, the material, and his lectures, are extremely dry. Avoid.

He's not bad once you get used to the way he talks. Material is very dense but if you take the time, you'll get it. Exams are straightforward. Not the most exhilarating class in the department but definitely worthwhile if you want to learn about conditioning theories.

Good teacher. The material is not difficult and he gives you an option of dropping your first midterm grade and replacing it with the second midterm if your grade is bad. He speaks slowly and clearly so it's easy to follow along when he talks. Overall, would recommend

Not a bad class and certainly not as boring as people make it out to be. He speaks clearly and elaborates when you ask. Overall good class, even though the material can be dry.

Profs often aren't as bad as they are made out to seem on this site..but this..is truly the most tedious psyc class I have ever had the displeasure to attend..his lectures are astoundingly uninspiring and poorly executed..I'm constantly amazed by his ability to make simple concepts difficult to understand. A misfortune I do not wish upon anyone.

he's pretty nice actually. his slides give you all the info you need. he gives practice questions with answers and always gives you the answers after midterms. his grading scheme is nice and he doesn't give tricky questions like most psych profs at mcgill. sometimes his jokes are funny too

Intelligence is by far the worse psychology class I have ever taken. All you learn about is a bunch of low to moderate correlations between cognitive tasks and some measures of intelligence. If you have any interest in the bigger picture of Humanity,AVOID!Also the prof thinks he's funny with his comments about hockey.

Yes the material is awful. Yes he can be very boring to listen to. But the class is easy if you can get through the material. His exams are straightforward and he tells you what material you need to know from the text. The midterms have usually 20 MCQs each and the final is 80. The paper really isn't bad. The TA walks you through everything.

He's a great guy, but the content is seriously awful. Who wants to learn about learning theory anyway? Torture. If you go to him or the TA Georgina after class you'll do fine; they both want you to do well in the class

It's the only psych class I have ever taken where I have not found a single thing said in lectures slightly interesting. I found the stats class that I passionately hate alot more interesting. The book is 5 times more interesting than the lecture. Probably a smart guy in his field. but his teaching sucks the life out of me.

hard to pay attention for longer than 1 minute at a time; can't tell if its the prof's unbearably boring style or the hopelessly dry material, but some combination of the two actually makes me lose my mind every time i step into the classroom.

Very nice guy! The material can get a bit dry sometimes, but it's not too bad considering the exams are very straight forward, and you get literally walked through every step of the paper. I'd say you couldn't get a bad mark on that even if you tried!

Worst psych class at McGill. Baker goes off into tangents and makes simple concepts so complicated, it makes you want to read the textbook, which is only slightly less boring than the lectures themselves. AVOID this class if possible

By far the worst psych teacher at McGill. Mumbles, speaks in a monotone, doesn't seem to care about the material, ofter go off on one his self-proclaimed "sermons" which are completely irrelevant. Only bright point is the TA Irina who is super helpful and actually takes the time to explain everything the prof didn't.
