I had him when I was a freshman, Now I am a junior and still get mad everytime I see him on campus. I studied and went to his class everyday and still got a D. He has obviously reached tenure and can say and do as he pleases without any reprocussions. He doesn't care about his students. He scarred me for life and I'm never taking a sociology again.

i got ten points extra credit on my final just for a guest speaker(doesnt matter who it is), the tests are hard as hell BUT the first and final was take home (but took like 3 hrs) and the the third test was a partner test, quizzes only help and he gave us soo much extra credit i got a B & i hardly attended. very interesting lectures ex: tea rooms

Prof. Smith gets a bad rap for being too hard, but if you study hard, the tests really aren't that bad, and he rewards good grades. He also gives ample opportunities for extra credit, so if you don't take advantage of them it's your own fault, but doesn't curve anything. He does talk a lot about sex and drinking though.

if you do not already know the material do not take this class. However you never take a test more than oneway. there are 4 tests and 4 quizzes(which you get a 100 on if you write your name correctly) and one test will be partner,take home, open note,and then one in the class. but i dont recommend him even tho you never have to go to his class.

GET OUT OF THIS CLASS BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE! This class will hurt your GPA and is not worth it. My class started out with apprx 50-60 students, by the last drop day the numbers were down to 20-25 people. THE CLASS IS IMPOSSIBLE and the teacher thinks he is Gods gift to ECU

Worst teacher I have ever had. Don't take this class. Almost everyone in my class failed. I read every page in the book he assigned us and passed the class by .75 points. He only gives four grades and stays off topic 99% of the time. Impossible to make an A, and its only an intro class.

One of the worst teachers I've ever had! Tests covered 4 or 5 chapters and in class he NEVER covered all the chapters that were to be on the test. Never gave any hint as to what should be focused on for the test. Talked about sex and politics 90% of the time. Get another teacher if you can!

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! GET OUT NOW BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE! He is a funny person but he can't teach! 10 percent of the time he talks about sociology and the rest he spends on random stuff! The tests are impossible and u have to study 5 chapters at a time on your own with no in-class help from him. FIND ANOTHER TEACHER QUICK!!!!!!!!!!!!

GET OUT! DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS! He does not teach. You have like five chapters to learn on your own. No matter how much you study, it's very hard to get a decent grade because his tests are close to impossible. He does not seem to care or understand that this is a lower level class (Intro) and he can't be so harsh. Nice guy, but HORRIBLE professor!!

Class is fun but u don't go over anything for test...don't go over like 2 chapters out of 4 for the test...The tests are very hard and u can study a ton and still do horrible class averages are around a 60..I would take a different teacher bc i heard ppl say that it was easy..Teacher won't let u see ur tests after done..Take a different teacher

If you are interested in learning,do NOT take this man's class.He's a horrible teacher& he rambles on about about growing up in rural NC, the amount of money in food stamps his father gets,the kinds of cars he drives,and if I want to know the scores from the ECU football games, I would go myself. You're better off teaching yourself.

I had this class in 1995 and it doesn't seem like it's changed much. I remember it vividly. We had one B in the class, the rest were C's, D's and F's. Even if you ask for help, it's not given. The sad thing is, he's a nice person, but horrible professor. Welcome to not learning.
