If you have no previous music experience, do not believe the comments saying that she is an easy A. She gives piano assignments for every class meeting which are extremely stressful due to her condescending attitude towards you. I think she means well, but she will give you a hard time if she thinks you're not putting effort in (even if you are).

Condescending, socially awkward. If you play piano at all, she will point out multiple times per class "how easy this must be for you," making everyone feel bad. If you don't play piano, she is incredibly hard to wrangle a clear, concise explanation from. Hard to endure, even for the painfully easy A.

She is a skilled musician and clearly has passion for the material.She can be annoying just cuz she has a funny voice and makes you sing all the time.Overall, the class is a joke if you have any musical ability. If the class were hard she wouldn't be my first choice, but it wouldn't be the end of the world either.

Are you kidding me. Being a music student who's not trained in piano, the practicum absolutely discouraged me weekly from ever pursuing music as anything but a hobby, mainly because Ms. Melson treated me like a child just because it's not my primary instrument. Absolutely *awful*.

Agree with the others. Easy as pie and very friendly and helpful. Although I don't really think that she's any easier than the other professors in the music department and the practicum is basically an A if you merely exert a modicum of effort, she is pretty lenient about just about everytrhing
