I took a few of his classes several years ago and found it one of the most useless experiences of my college career. He has nothing substantive to teach but he is very encouraging - so you won't improve and you'll cringe while listening to him fawn over terrible work.

David was one of the creators of the freshman Foundations Program at the Kansas City Art Institute in the 1960s, a model for such programs and based on Bauhaus principles. He is a sincere, dedicated and brilliant teacher who truely understands the fundamental needs of young art students. He surely helped me to think of myself as an artist.

I was a graduate student in this art program about 15 years ago. I found David to be an inspiring artist, but too busy to be really sincere. I guess I learned from his art more than from him. I am a professor now, and sometimes refer to his daily drawings in my own classes.

Dunlap's classes are a lot of fun. In the beginning you don't get quite well what this class is about but if you want freedom to create your stuff and get feedback, he is your teacher. No restrictions at all. The answer is always yes!

Great teacher! He was very supportive and was able to talk to each student individually and figure out what they needed and wanted out of drawing and art. He was able to challenge me as well as make the class very enjoyable. I learned a lot from this professor.

Sad. Im not sure what all the hype was about. If you want to take an interesting art class you could easily do better. If you want to study art you could definitely do better. I was very disappointed.
