Sauer's a fantastic literary scholar and very entertaining. Don't expect him to teach you how to write, you're in college...you're supposed to know already. Very laid back about attendance and participation, but he expects quality when you turn something in. Eng majors should take his Shakespeare class. It's his specialty and what he teaches best.
