Comment:
Assignments could at times be challenging. Knowledge from previous CS classes and keeping up with material from textbook was expected. Lets you know exactly what to go over for midterm and the final exam which both are open book exams. I would take another class with him.

Had him for CPSC3620 and 1820. He is unapproachable and unhelpful if asking questions. Cracks jokes in class which I appreciate but with teaching, his methods prove over and over to be unsuccessful. He's a brilliant man, but translating it to students is not great. The only redeeming factor? Generous grader (which bumps his score from a 1 to a 2).

Daya's a really chill guy. You can ask him for cheat sheets or open book and he'll just say, sure. Fair marker too. That being said, you won't learn anything in his class. He skips too many steps in his lecture for it to make sense, and he doesn't go by textbook order, somewhat disorganized. Again though, fair marker.

Simply terrible. Does not explain things well, he never explains how to solve problems he just kind of talks about them. He suggests expensive textbooks but they are not very applicable at all. In assignments and tests, he asks difficult questions that have NOTHING to do with anything he taught us. He expects us to just "know" complex topics. Bad.

Comment:
Daya definitely needs to improve on the first few weeks of content for this class. After that, this class becomes quite enjoyable and ended up being my favourite this semester. Assignments are relevant to what we learned in lectures and tests are fair. The class is hard, but he marks very generously. Work hard and you can easily do well.

This is an algorithms class, so its given that there will be a lot of content. The grading was fairly done, as long as you give a reasonable explanation and effort.

Comment:
Daya is super friendly in class, but a lot less approachable during officer hours. He over-complicates simple concepts and never gives a step-by-step process to solving problems which is very frustrating. For a first year class he assumes you have more knowledge than he has any right to. Very lenient grading criteria but difficult assignments.

worst prof ever, his lectures are easy but exams are too hard. he covers almost everything in his lecture, too many things to study. Try to avoid his class, course materials are irrelevant and mostly covered from his other classes. he is not friendly at all.

Daya is a very fair prof. Lectures aren't gonna be all slides, he actually writes things on the board and discusses. You have to pay attention, and if you do, its not hard to get an A. Very easy marker on assignments, very fair marker on tests.

Great marker, horrible teacher. Terrible lectures and very difficult course concepts. He is more suited to be a 3rd and 4th year prof than a prof for an introductory course for Computer Science. He can turn you off from the program altogether.

Hard to understand at first, but you get used to the accent after a couple lectures. Really great guy, didn't want to see us again (ie, failing students). Made sure that we were prepared for midterms and exams.

Daya is overall a good professor, however the class can be really tough, especially if you don't have a strong math background (if so, go to math extra help). Tests can be hard. You need to go to class.

Daya is very knowledgable and teaches at a very high level. He as a good sense of humor and keeps the class moving along. The exams are very tough and you have to know all the material because you don't know what will be on it. Overall, great guy out of class, decent prof if you work hard.

Comment:
Course material can be a little dry, Daya does try to make it as enjoyable as he can by sliding in his little jokes here and there. He covers the material fairly evenly and there are plenty of opportunities to make up the grade. People need to remember half the course is them actually making an effort to learn instead of leaving it on the prof.

Daya is a brilliant mind, he definitely knows his stuff. Unfortunately, he tends to speak engineer. If you pay attention, ask questions, and participate you're in good shape. Exams are hard, and his exam study materials are scarce. Overall good instructor

I wish I'd listened to the other ratings before enrolling. Take a course with him, and I guarantee you'll regret it. His lectures will teach you nothing, his tests are extremely long and extremetly difficult, and he is very mean and unapproachable. Please listen to me, do not take a course with Daya!

Taking it right now. I can understand the words he says but not what he means. He said programming is an art, I want to ask him to teach me how to hold the paint brush before he asks for a Van Gogh. Use the three textbooks he assigns ($ ~250) you'll need it

Terrible. He is very knowledgeable but is in no way a effective professor. He is vague disjointed and does not emphasize important ideas and concepts. Over half the class dropped his course after the first assignment.

He's a great guy, but yes, he's very, very quiet. I had his class MWF at 9:00am. It was painful. Often I would wake up at 9:50 after a 50 minute bad dream about coding and solving algorithms, then realize it wasn't a dream. That's a terrible feeling. I want to administer an Epi pen to his carotid and see if it wakes him (and the class) up.
