Comment:
Shorr is by far one of the best journalism professors out there. He keeps it real and has great connections. Showing dedication in his class is the key. Otherwise he is just truly fair and you'll get the grade you deserve. Also had him for JO524 and JO532.

Knows what he is talking about. Very critical on technical positions, but a little more lenient on packages. If you want a good grade, you'll have to work for it.

Very fun teacher! He may yell, but it never gets personal. We have fun in the class and Prof. Shorr is very easy to feel comfortable around. He told us in the beginning he wants us to do well, and I have yet to get a grade below a B+. He's always there to help, and he's given me the best guidance, straight forward advice of any professor

Had him for Sports Newsroom/Seminar. Utterly incompetent and out-of-touch. His connections are virtually useless now and his knowledge was last relevant in the 90s. Stubborn, abrasave, unprofessional - the list goes on and on. You don't learn much and you certainly don't prepared to get hired in a newsroom out of school.

He tries to act like he's doing a huge favor by preparing you for the "real world," but in reality, he is just very mean. He made several people in my class cry and constantly berates and belittles his students. He never actually taught us a thing, just expected us to "learn by doing" and screamed and swore at us if we messed up.

The class is a piece of cake, but you have to put up with Shorr's opinionated views and overall dismissive attitude. He is very arrogant and closed-minded... in other words, a jerk.

Here's the scoop... basically once a week you have 2 speakers come in who are in the field of Sports Journalism (sometimes famous ones that you've seen on TV). And the only work involved is a one page reflection paper on what you talked about in the seminar. Class is only 2 hours. As for Shorr, if you are on his good side, you are fine.

I liked this guy. Very helpful with getting you the materials you needed to put a good piece together. He wasn't easy though and I agree with the reviewer that called him "volatile." If you work hard, he'll like you.

Shorr won 8 Emmys at Channel 7. Nice guy outside of class and willing to help w/resumes and contacts. In class he gets very frustrated and volatile but if u work hard he'll have no problem with you. I highly recommend the class for COMPETENT people who.
