Dr. Schwartzhoff is one of the most dedicated directors in Haas. He makes you work hard, and when you're done, you have an amazing sound and a sense of pride for the work you did. He drives students from being "interested" to being "committed."

Doc holds Concert Choir to extremely high standards and expects nothing short of perfection. He is comfortable being himself and cracking jokes and poking fun occasionally. He is extremely genuine and in-touch with the music, and cares that his students understand the true beauty of choir. He is sometimes very rude and snarky.

doc is the best. if you are in statesmen or concert choir you should know that you need to memorize music. people say he can be rude and alienate others but if you are being treated that way you probably deserve it because you aren't pulling your weight for the choir. he expects perfection and i have had moments in ss that i will cherish for life

Dr. Schwartzhoff (Doc) is one of the best instructors I've ever had, not to mention that he is one of the finest people I've ever met. He is very hard, but only because he expects you to give everything (as he does). He truly cares about every one in his choirs and he never stops inspiring me.

He is awesome. Don't judge him by your first impression. On the surface, he does seem kind of grumpy, brash, etc. but that is his way of making everyone take the music and the class seriously. If you're around him long enough, you can tell that he really cares about his students, and about the music. The best conductor I've had.

Schwartzoff, oh man where do I begin? His conducting and teaching can be highly discouraging, but if you come to class and are focused you'll make some fantastic music. He's really into what he does. So I'd probably recommend him if you're the same way!

While Doc may come off as being a little rough around the edges, after dealing with immature college musicians for all those years, we're all lucky he hasn't lost his sanity! A bit brash at times, he knows what he needs to get done, and does what it takes. I mean, I went to Brazil with him! What's not to like?!

STATESMEN! This class rocked my world and will continue to until I graduate. Doc is an awesome man and a great conductor. I don't agree with any comment that says different. In my eyes, there is no choice, TAKE HIM! Recommended!

Reading some of these comments shocks me. Doc made such a difference in my life and made me into the teacher I am today. I still use his warm-ups, his techniques, and his wisdom. There have been times when I've questioned his judgment, but overall, he's an amazing teacher who expects a lot and knows how to get great results! Very inspiring!

Good conductor, but not a nice man. He is very rude to students, and is only interested in making himself look good. He will be happy to insult and belittle you at any time. Only worth it if you truely love music.

Doc can come off as arrogiant and kind of is, but not to the extent he appears. He is a good conductor, but he has the ability to completely alienate people and make them feel like they are not wanted. He seeks perfection in a good way and really cares about how the choir sounds, but isn't the best when it comes to caring about the individual.

This man is a great man. My first semester having him i just fell in love him. He asked me the first day of choir if this would work for me. He is a very caring and gentle man. Great conducter too, he really makes an improvment on any group he conducts.

Not gonna lie...he's a tough guy to read. Even if you don't like his personality, he is truly an excellent director who gets the best sound possible out of any choir he directs. Underneath it all, he really has a heart of gold.

Doc Schwartzhoff is the WORST conductor at UW-Eau Claire. Not only that, but he is extremly arrogant and only cares about himself. If you are going to join choir, join one that Dr. Rieck conducts. Concert choir isn't all it's cracked up to be. The only way you'll enjoy yourself is if you enjoy being a member of a cult.

He brings emotion to the choir which is something great choirs need to have. Under his direction I have been more connected with a choir than I have ever been before.
