On our last day of class, Dr. Gooch began "teaching" a new chapter. When he asked a question and no one in the class responded, he walked out. I guess it didn't cross his mind that maybe we were all confused out of our minds because he is an awful teacher. Do not take him unless you enjoy late nights in the library with your chemistry textbook.

the worst professor I have had so far. Avoid him at all costs. His tests are timed and long, and really hard so no one finishes them. He wants everyone to ask questions but when you do, he is rude. when i go to his office he's confusing and acts as if youre wasting his time. If all other chem classes are full, wait for another semester to take chem

Dr. Gooch is an amazing teacher! I didn't have him for genchem so I can't attest to that but he made orgo wonderful. Bio majors tend to complain about him because he won't let you simply memorize. GET OVER IT! any question you have he will answer it... i always went to his office for help and it paid of for me!

Everybody dreads having him, and he is very hard, but he is a very nice guy. Gooch is extremely intelligent and has problems breaking things down to a level where students can understand. Ask the TAs for help if you're struggling because he can ramble if you ask him. READ!!

Very dry boring class that is based soley on the book. His tests are easy and so is his class. Very helpful outside of class. Try for Dr. Dan Wright first.

Probably one of the worst professors at Elon. I am sure he is very intelligent but he can't teach worth $#%@. You have to teach yourself the material. I feel that I am going to leave his class with an extremely limited knowledge of General Chemistry. If you can get a better prof. DO IT. That is if you actually need to learn chemistry.

He is great one-on-one and very helpful. Go to him and ask questions. He is really nice and will take the time out of his schedule to help anyone. In lab, he really knows what he is doing and has a lot to teach you. He is also usually in a really good mood.

Ugh. Does anyone else think he is going senial?? We had a lab to do, but he didn't have all the reagents/supplies ready for us, but didn't tell us, so then we were stuck in the middle of a lab we could not finish. He tends to leave when things start to go wrong.

He has been extremely out of his way unhelpful. He will not give straight answers, but expects us to know how to do things when we have no previous experience. I understand his logic in trying to get us to study relentlessly so that we really know chemistry, but most people are not chem majors.

He tries to help you understand the material, but in the end makes you more confused than before. He doesn't work whole probs. in class, only starts them and tells you to see a math tutor for help. Overall i would rather have had any other prof. Avoid Gooch!!

very hard to understand and i agree, he does make class more difficult than neccessary. i had a "D" most of the semester and yet he convinced me that I was one of his top students -scary!

I am an ulum and would suggest not taking this class with Dr. Gooch. I felt he made an already difficult subject harder than it needed to be. I dropped Gooch after the first exam (which I failed) and took it through a local, state supported university, and made an A.

Speaking as an alum, I must say that Dr.Gooch is the ultimate Chem professor. He does a great job with the PR and marketing on making people "think" Organic Chem is a hard class. It's all psychological! Come on Elon students, catch on to the Chem Dept.'s fake outs-you shall overcome.

The only good thing about this man and this class is the variety of ties that he wears. I stare at the animals on his ties all class period because he is a terrible teacher. Do not get stuck with him!
