one paper and two tests. Professor Sinkler does not give quizzes. Lecture attendance is not mandatory, but it is better to attend for notes because she does not post materials on blackboard. Overall it was an easy A.

She was really quiet in lectures and wrote really small on the board. Lectures are so boring, but must pay attention since most of the test material comes from lectures. Really strict with grading. TA's weren't helpful at all.

Dislike. Whenever someone gave an opinion or questioned something she would always just say, "I don't know what you're getting at" every time. She was an extremely hard grader and *really* nit-picky on stuff like wording and would take tons of points off giving some extremely confusing explanation as to why. Also textbook was the worst ever

I'm not sure why the last reviews were so harsh. I enjoyed the class even though the material wasn't my favorite. She has high expectations but it was a 400 level class and she seemed genuinely interested in helping students succeed. She is a great lecturer and you will leave the class having learned a lot of valuable information.

Take this class only if you belong to a certain "group." Take that as you will.. She doesn't explain what she wants you to write for ANY assignment. If you ask her to clarify anything, she'll just get mad and make up some BS. She's VERY opinionated and unwilling to consider opposing ideas, which is pathetic. I can't believe she is allowed to teach.

One of the worst professors in the philosophy department at UIC. She is unorganized and doesn't explain her grading system at all. It seems that there was no clear grading rubric for her essays and papers. Good luck asking her to explain why she grades the way she does; she'll just get defense and then mark you off even more on future assignments.

Ms. Sinkler is an easy teacher, she gives study guides before the test only had 2 exams, 1 paper, 1 Homework assignment. tons of readings, but you're not graded on them so you don't have to read all of them.... All in all easy A

This professor could be seen as boring or difficult, but if you are interested in the topic, take advantage of the fact that Prf Sinkler is brilliant and knowledgeable, if somewhat eccentric. Pay careful attention to lectures and don't be discouraged if she shoots down your ideas, she is a stickler for you clearly expressing your ideas.

Worst teacher ever. Absolutely stay away from her. She makes everything boring and dull and is the toughest grader even though the material is not too bad. She is horrible and I would never ever take her again. If you value your grades even the slightest bit, STAY AWAY FROM HER!!!

Yes, this class was quite boring. BUT its an easy A imo if you copy all her notes on the board. Easy paper topic. Easy exams and quizzes. Straightforward. Nothing against the teacher, but I won't be taking another philosophy class.

At first she looks like a nice old lady, harmless. BUT BEWARE- she is so DRY, and BORING, and so SUBJECTIVE, that she will shoot your ideas and opinions down, even though the class is about a subject like GOD. She is mean, hard grader, and looks at you like you're stupid or something. I HAD TO DROP even though I LOVE PHILOSOPHY!!!!

Going into this class I was interested in learning about philosophy and took it for a gen ed. I'm not sure if I got anything out of it. I learned some facts but not anything really interesting. Must go to lecture for the notes, or just borrow someone else's. 2 exams and a couple quizzes in discussion-easy. One easy paper.

She's very funny. She does use some rather jaw-dropping examples though. One involving Arnold Schwarzenegger running in to the classroom, sticking a gun in her hand, and pulling the trigger on a student actually. Oh, and she referenced blowing up the Daley library. A large part of your grade in this class is participation in discussion. So TALK.

If you go to lecture and take notes, you will be fine. However, the key is to actually study those notes haha. The TA is the one who grades everything and he is a little harsh. Basically, this class should have been an easy A, and I ended up with a high B.

I think this teacher is extremely accomodating when it comes to office hours. Although she doesn't believe in technology such as email or blackboard, she still makes herself accessible. Listen to her lectures, copy what she writes on the board, and look over them once before the exam. Not a lot of effort is needed in this class. 2 exams, 1 paper

It would be almost impossible to find a teacher as boring as she is, and plus she gives these really messed up tests which almost no other philosophy teacher does. Avoid her unless you like being bored.
