He is one of the most caring and truthful people you will ever meet. He also is an incredible teacher with panache. He is brillant, but not afraid to admit he does not know something, and is always there for you, whenever you need him. Also, he grades very very hard, but he is fair.

Notes that are available are not the same notes that he uses in class, does not tell you what sections to read or focus on and is unrealistic on the fact that he wants you to work each problem in the book. Same goes for lab, does not have an updated syllabus and makes you feel stupid asking him questions.

Uses outdated slides and material. Doesn't keep up with the current teaching material and methods. Good office hours and is willing to help, but sometimes you feel more confused after you meet with him. Questionable grading teqniques, class avg. on tests is poor.

He teaches both inorganic and quant. His classes are very hard because they are supposed to be. They are upper division chemistry classes. However, this man is one of the most dedicated teachers ever. He is ALWAYS willing to help answer questions, so utilize his office hours! The lectures can be hard to understand, but it is possible to get an A!

Dr. Gries IS the hardest professor in the chem department! Loved his class and would take it again any day though. His tests are really hard (I faill all of them), but they really prepare you for the ACS exam, which helped me go from a D to a B in lecture. If you're good in lab you'll have fun and make an easy A!

One of my favorite professors. Class was fun, he likes to laugh-get him to laugh. The class won't be a walk in the park, but it's very doable. He wants you to succeed. I learned a lot in his class.

VERY HARD CLASS! Expects you to know the material before he teaches it. Takes off points for every little thing. Not understanding or approachable. I think I'd like him as a person but he has no business teaching.

He is a great teacher--and gives good lectures and notes--but listen to him too--not just write down what he puts on the board. He has a great laugh--get him to laugh in class!

This is a difficult course. I still made an A, but it was a difficult A. I had to do a lot of independent study. He wasn't always very clear, but it's a very abstract course. He put a lot of effort into it though. He gave a yeoman's performance.

He did the job, but it's a pretty easy subject. So, it wasn't a real test of his abilities. He's a good guy though, and if you put in the effort, then he'll meet you half way.

His class is hard if you do not read the notes and put your full effort into it. You can not rely on his advice because he is usually very vague. Do not be afraid of his reactions to questions or comments. Over all he is a good proessor

I think I'm pretty good at figuring out people, but I don't understand Gries one bit. Hard to approach. Disorganized. He can be quite nice sometimes... I liked the class a lot at first but now I can't wait for it to be over.
