Comment:
Professor Brown is one of the most engaging and insightful professors I've encountered. He is very professional and does expect that from students, however he is more approachable than he may seem. He is passionate and extremely knowledgeable and has been willing to aid me with material both relevant and irrelevant to the course. 10/10

The best way I can describe Professor Brown is hard but also fair and engaging. His lectures are incredibly interesting and he is very well informed. He can come off as arrogant but honestly its deserved. His tests and papers can be very hard so pay attention during class.

Professor Brown is extremely professional expects the same from his students. His classes are not easy, and he can be a bit arrogant. Prepare to decipher his handwriting. He writes in script and in French. Also, he does not let you use the restroom during class, something I found unbearable (you'll never find a female professor doing the same).

This guy knows his stuff better than any professor I've ever had. His lectures are enthralling and he presents the information in a way that is inherently interesting. You are required to take two tests and write a research paper. He comes off quite arrogant, but it is deserved. You will become a better history writer in this course.

The Good: He is extremely knowledgeable in his field. His sense of humor can be amusing. The Bad: He is quite arrogant. He won't hesitate to embarrass students in class. His tests are VERY hard. There's a ton of reading. Lectures can be dry and aren't very coherent. The bad outweighs the good. Wouldn't take a class w/ him again.

As a high school history teacher, I try to emulate Prof. Brown's lecture style and delivery. His well planned lectures always made me feel that I was experiencing the time period directly and living through history. He inspired my career and taught me that my arguments mean nothing without evidence and many other things I try to teach my students.

Absolutely rediculous. This is the professor that asked his TA to grade this way, minus one point for each spelling mistake. So if you used "is" instead of "Was", 1 point off. You can get deducted 100 points off if 100 of these are found. He is just aweful aweful professor, I have never never seen or heard any professor like that in the world!

Way too hard especially if you're just taking it for a gen ed. or as an elective! Mandatory screen filmings just about every week and his insanely hard tests and grading criteria is what made me drop this course. Very mean and arrogant as well. AVOID him at all costs!

Advice for any future Graduate protégéadvisee under his tutelage: If still an undergraduate, double minor in French language and French history. Instead of majoring in History, major in Political Science, Philosophy or Sociology. He expects his Graduate Students to be highly informed in Philosophical, Sociological and Political Theory.

Professor Brown is extremely knowledgeable in his field; he is a brilliant instructor. However, his grading system is insane, it as if he is not trying to promote student success, he is more concerned with making it his primary objective to express his brilliance. He is by no means, an easy professor!

Single best professor in binghamton. Not an easy class, but if you do the readings and pay attention in class you'll do fine. Brown is also absolutely brilliant. If you're a history major, you're missing out if you dont take a class with him

Quite knowledgeable on the subject but is somewhat arrogant. Biggest problem is that his final paper grading system makes no sense and is very counter-intuitive while being excessively difficult. Class is rewarding but not enough to justify taking it. Ultimately he makes the class more difficult through a over-complicated final paper.

Really great professor, really knows his subject matter. Class is lecture based with some outside readings every week. Not an easy A, but he's a fair grader (tough tests and a research paper). I highely reccomend taking a class with him.

Lectures take up all class without any notes, so be prepared to fill out many pages of notes nonstop. He is interesting though and easy to follow. He dedicates a fair part of your final grade for weekly assignments and you only have to do 5/9 of them. Overall really fair gave me a lot of help in office hours. Stay up on pace and you will be fine.

Very arrogant and condescending. A very poor teacher who who grades and treats students unfairly. Does not mind yelling and belittling students in class for even the most minor of reasons. I find it shocking that this Professor is the chair of the department.

It seems like Brown hates his students. It seems like he wants them to fail. Comes off as very cold. On the possitive note, you will learn a lot in this class.

His class is fun. It is nice to listen to him. However there are a lot of stuff to do. I am an international student and readings were sometimes too much and difficult for me. To get a good grade from a term paper is really the hard. But he is a wonderful professor! i would take another course from him.

Masterful lecturer, I was never once bored in his 1.5-hour long class. Good sense of humor, too. His class is a lot of work, and his tests are tough, but more than anything he is fair with his paper and assignment policies. I would definately recommend his class to history majors.
