Ida Cook seems to have a bad rep on here but from my experience she was very knowledgable in her field and very clear when it came to what she expected in homework. Tests aren't easy but she gives you the option to take in class or online (online is a lot better because you can take with classmates) I honestly did not pay attention, but got an A

Comment:
Dr. Cook is not a very good professor as her lectures are extremely long. She doesn't ever get to the point, and spends 30-45 minutes on a slide that should have taken 5-10. The tests were pretty easy as long as you take good notes in class. I barely read the book, but it was a good reference for the test as some of the answers came from there.

Worst professor. Grades way too hard and doesn't specify herself when giving assignments. Lectures are stupid and points get taken off for stupid reasons. Don't take her

Perhaps for other students she's a delight. I'm assuming white students who completely agree with her points of view. Her sources she requires for assignments are abysmal and lacking at best, then deducts points for using the sources she wants you to use. Her abrasiveness and condescending attitude did not help at all either.

Pass on this class if you have a brain. This professor is does not practice a fair grading policy nor does she adhere to what sociology represents. This class was poorly managed, grades were painfully slow and the teacher was not nice, AT ALL!

The abrasiveness of this professor was beyond compare. Her grading was subjective to what she wanted to hear, not what she asked of you. The class was unorganized and grades were delivered the last week of school. I regret every dime I spent on this class! Do not take her unless you are into masochism.

Bad class. Her quizzes are multiple choice, most correct choice style along with an essay (needs citations) that's graded accorded to her perceptions rather than the rubric. Additionally, the last module covers twice as many chapters as the others along with a paper, as if I have nothing else to do but an introductory online sociology course.

I don't understand the negative reviews; she makes you work, but if you stay in contact with her, she's very helpful. I was always on her case about errors on Webcourses or debating exam answers and she often took my opinion into consideration. As long as you put effort into studying the material and focusing in class, you're golden.

Assignments in the first half of the class disappeared from the modules and grade book once the second half of the class opened up, inconsistencies in the syllabus, and it took quite a while for her to respond to emails. Though she did offer us extra credit the class structure didn't make much sense. Would not take her again.

Although the lecture is long, what can you expect from an hour long class? Make sure to take good lecture notes and keep up with your reading, since all of her tests are open-book. The assignments were sometimes cumbersome, but they weren't impossible. Overall, she wasn't a bad teacher.

Worst online class ever. She is very un organized . There is no feed back on tests or assignments. She sets her due dates on midterm and semester end, but decides to have a third due date where she wants only assignment due. Don't take this class online.

Cook is a terrible professor. Due dates constantly change. There are two big group projects that are worth 70 points along with multiple papers/discussions that are really difficult. Grading is super slow and with only 1 week left I don't know where I stand. I really regret taking this professor. :( BTW- this spring semester 4 things due on EASTER

The absolute worst. Run Run Run for your life. She grades extremely hard and is very rude. She never responds to e-mails and gives a ton of work. You spend 5hours writing a paper to receive a 4.5 out of 15. She waits until after the withdrawl date to grade your assignments. she is horrible, inconsiderate person with no life. Her TA is horrible too

I have never complained about a teacher at UCF. I have never even written on this website. But this teacher is so horrible that I need to. Im more then half way through the semester cureently and the only grades that I have are 1 point for a Compliance Agreement, 1 point to say hi to the TA, and 9/10 points for posting in a discussion about myself.

I don't understand the negative reviews...If you follow the instructions, attend class, and read the textbook, since it IS a requirement, you're golden. She's always willing to help if you reach out to her. Seriously it is not hard. Do the work...get the grade. It's as easy as that.

Ida Cook is probably one of the worst teachers I have ever had. She rambles on in lectures, give a ridiculous amount of work, doesn't explain assignments very well. You have to read the book if you want to learn anything. I stopped going to class halfway through the semester because going is pointless. Don't take this class.

Dr. Cook is very rude and condescending, especially online because of the way she would word her sentences. She expects WAY too much out of you for a beginning class, and the work was ridiculous. The papers weren't that hard, and neither were the tests, but I wish she was nicer.

Please head my warning, do not take this class. Ida Cook is not meant to be an online course instructor. I didn't listen and I'm paying for the consequences. She displays no clarity, no empathy and expects you to be an expert in an introductory class. It was a waste of money and time. I only stuck this out b/c this was my last gened requirement.
