Dr. Bedel is an extremely sweet old man however his tests are almost impossible to past. The essay portions are easy but the multiple choice are impossible. You have to read the book to even get a 50%. I read the entire thing and still only managed to get a 60%

LOVE LOVE! Absolutely awesome teacher! He made me love sociology. His lectures are easy to follow because he gives you examples from his life and its easy to relate. Gives study guides and if you follow his lectures you barely have to use the book. Must do the study guide its a tremendous help when it comes to his 3 tests. Go to class its worth it.

This man is the model professor. Cares about the class & making sure you leave prepared for life. He guides you to think outside the box & change your worldview. He GIVES the test questions AND essay portion beforehand. Read the book and get an A+ . All time fave profclass, not exaggerating. He said it himself, he's here for our learning solely

Really interesting class. This guy is hilarious & knows what he is talking about. He can seem intimidating but he really does care about his students. Sit in the front & answer questions, he likes when students care and speak up. For the multiple choice questions, I suggest actually reading the book a couple pages a day throughout the semester.

Dr. Bedell is hands-down the best professor at CSUF! He's hilarious and extremely passionate about what he does. His lectures are always interesting and he makes the class fun. Tests and essays are not hard if you read (book is interesting and easy to read) and listen during lectures. I loved this class!

I took Sociology 101 that was 1/4 online and the rest in class. He is a very interesting professor to listen to and he greatly interested me in the field of sociology. The tests are a bit challenging (make sure to study), but the vignettes are easy as long as you can back up your argument. Highly recommend.

Dr. Bedell was arguably the best college professor I ever had. He seems intimidating and demanding, but you;re golden if you pay attention. Amazing lecturer. In 1997, his lectures were circular. He would methodically introduce a topic, discuss the layers, go on tangents, and return to the topic beautifully.I brought my brother to his class.

I dont understand how anyone who claims his class to be hard makes it at the university level. I literally put in two weeks of work all semester and pulled a B. Test's are not as hard as they seem, dont overthink it, put in good thoughtful arguments and he will appreciate. Objectives are tough, but the vingette is a breeze! Horrible communication!

By far the worst professor/class I have taken. He seems like a nice dude, but this class was impossible. 2 exams your whole grade and his study guides cover stuff NOT on exams. He never responded to any of my emails either. Maybe it would be better in class, but online it was a complete teach yourself course. Take w/ a diff professor!!

I took his online class which meets 2 times for a midterm and final that make up the whole grade. Very difficult tests- he gives a study guide but most of the material on the test is not included in the study guide. It is very frustrating to time manage for a test that covers 6+ chapters when his study guides are actually misleading to what you'll actually need to know... DO NOT take his online class

Dr. Beddell comes across a lot more difficult then he ends up being. He likes to challenge the students with his crazy tests that actually make sense if you give them a chance. I think he's super funny and I learned a lot!! Take him, but not if your lazy, he won't stand for it!

His lectures are really intresting, but the tests are REALLY hard. You HAVE TO read the book otherwise you don't really have a chance, and read everything even the little boxes on the side of the reading. If you have a question ask him for help, he is a really nice guy just don't give him lame excuses. study hard!

DR. BEDELL IS VERY NICE, & THAT MAKES I HARD NOT TO LIKE HIM. BUT HE IS THE WORST PROFESSOR FOR CLARITY, I DID NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT HE WANTED THE ENTIRE SEMESTER AND NIETHER DID THE OTHER STUDENTS. Dr. Bedell is intimidating at first, but he keeps u interested in the subject he teaches. JUMP ON THE EXTRA CREDIT!! always jump on the extra credit becuz it helped me pass his class. =) other than that, study for his tests from the book, and the vignette gets pretty hard at times =(

I was an English major at CSUF (M.A. earned) and I wish some of the English profs were as solid as this man. By far, the best class I had in undergrad and grad school. It's hard, but if you want to learn and allow yourself time for the reading, you will learn information that stays with you for the rest of your life. Excellent prof and caring man.

Comment:

Bedell seems intimidating, but his demeanor grows on you. The vignettes are confusing assignments, and I had trouble with them even though I do very well on essays. You will miss a lot if you don't go to every class session. Jump on extra credit opportunities. Ask questions if you don't understand - he didn't seem to mind being asked to clarify.
