She is such a sweet woman, but a horrible teacher. When she grades papers you can never read her handwriting and her lectures are draining and full of unnecessary note taking. She goes very slow in the beginning and speeds up at the end of the lecture so you don't get all of your notes down. Tests are very hard and unreasonable. Don't recommend.

Isn't nice. most teachers want you to learn, but she just wants you to fail. She is mean and her "study guides" are almost as confusing as the the way she teaches. DO NOT TAKE HER. toughest grader and worst teacher. My bro is a history teacher, and doesn't even understand her or her teaching mechanisms

Great professor but she definitely expects too much of you! tests are extremely hard! you will write constantly for the whole period and still miss a lot of key elements. 2 group presentations - pretty fun. Make sure to show up and pay attention (take good notes plus ask ?'s)

A woman of unmistakable academic brilliance, Dr. Long is entertaining and an excellent lecturer. Be warned - her tests for the most part are fairly unpredictable and fairly difficult. However, this seemed to be more of a testament to her faith in our intellectual ability rather than a deliberate, malicious intent to screw us all. Overall, excellent

Dr. Long is one of my favorite professors. She's a very sweet woman who will go out of her way to answer your questions and help give you a better understanding. There's daily homework and a very small microquiz every day to help keep up on basic grammar skills. Midterm and final are both very easy as long as you do the homework and pay attention.

She's a nice lady- but nice to a fault. She doesn't want to discourage anybody and doesn't correct people in class, which confused me A LOT. I didn't know what was going on half of the time. Expect quizzes each class, a big quiz each month, a midterm and final. Only take if you have prior knowledge of Latin and don't mind teaching yourself!

This class is WAY too hard for Core! I go to every class, take detailed notes, and have no idea what is going on half the time. Only take if you're a Classics major! Essays on tests are over things she mentioned twice, group project is very difficult to accomplish. So smart, and nice, but justa hard class!

Prof. Long is great! She has a very methodical way of teaching, but if you have a question she will stop to answer until you understand. The class is structured so that each person gets to translate a bit in class, and is very helpful in transitioning from learning just grammar & vocab in 101&102 to translating prose & poetry later on.

She is a very nice lady and a good teacher. However, she is sometimes hard to understand because she talks in a weird way. Also, she doesn't have a defined grading scale so you don't know what your grade is in that class. To make matters worse, her study questions dont help at all. Great class with interesting books, but try taking someone else.

worst class ever! she's all over the place and totally disorganized. Test have material that you never go over or read about. Study guides and study questions don not help with you on the test. It's just too much material to go over in a semester and it's too hard for a core. Nice lady though!

LitHum, intro course at Columbia University; Prof. Long was extremely helpful and put a lot of effort into making the course meaningful for each student. Attendance and participation is a must but put in the effort and you'll do well. Caution: Prof. Long was and is an inspiring, lyrically, hauntingly beautiful woman. Take at your own risk.

If you are going to take LATIN take Dr. Long. She is extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and cares about her students. The class is also set up well. In class you have daily reading and small quizzes. Every other Friday you have a regular quiz and the remaining grade comes from homework, a midterm, and a final. She is also quite funny.

Very nice, although felt class was very disorganized. Readings weren't discussed in class til days, or even a week, after. Can't read her handwriting. Loved the class, but would have taken it with another professor

She's a really understanding, nice person. The subject is pretty interesting and if you go to class, take notes on her powerpoints and at least read or sparknote the plays you'll probably at least get a B if not higher. Pretty easy class- Def recommend.
