Comment:
Professor Carey is polite, respectful, and enthusiastic. He always had high energy for every class. The problem with Evidence though, is the textbook. It's terrible. Buy Emmanuel's supplement, and read it before class. Before doing this I wasn't sure if Carey was an effective teacher, then once I read the supp I realized he was quite on point.

Very polite. Enthusiastic. Respectful. Great person in general. Downside, he will assign large chunks of reading and then talk about some 1 oage note hidden somewhere in the reading for half the class. He tries to lecture in an overly "academic" style. Lots of rhetorical questions, while the students are just trying to figure out basics.

Incomprehensible. Nice guy, but not a great teacher. Lots of show, not a lot of content. Had to literally teach myself Evidence on my own time - notes from the course were unusable.

Carey is a cool Prof. You don't think you have learned a thing until you start studying for finals and then you realize how much you he's taught you. Entertaining.

Carey is a fantastic prof--fun, engaging, interesting and interested. Some people want to be told the law like the times table, but Carey teaches you how to think about criminal law, which is what you need, and he's super nice and helpful.

Super nice guy, but not so organized of a teacher. Jumps around a lot and goes off on tangents.

Very energetic, intelligent professor but I didn't learn a thing in this course. Read Courtroom 302 for a real understanding of how evidence in a trial works, especially in Cook County. This class was all academic exercise, no real substance and no confrontation of real legal issues. Points out the absurdity of legal education

Nicest guy ever, but very unclear and very hard to follow. You will have to teach yourself the entire subject in your free time

Be warned - if you're looking for a 'black letter law' teacher, take Elward. Carey is entertaining, and a good instructor, but the most common complaint on him is that he can be obtuse and doesn't make clear what the law is. You're stuck trying to sift through and find that on your own. Elward is more obvious in making his points than Carey.
