While he seems like a very nice man, he was thrown in to teach this course last minute which was reflected in the lectures. The midterms were easy, straight from a question bank, the final was totally fair but admittedly nothing like the two midterms. Read every word of the book and it's a (fairly) easy A.

Lectures are entirely useless. Uses the textbook entirely. Very fair midterms - no surprises, all multiple choice. Fair exam - people said it was difficult, but I found it to be relatively easy and on par with the midterms. Read the textbook, study hard, and you'll do fine. Really nice guy (super approachable). Tends to just repeat text.

I felt so bad for MacDougall - no one goes to his classes because he basically summarizes the chapter and then you have to go and do a crap load of readings. In a class of 600, there were about 30 kids who went to class every day ...sad. Midterms were easy, but his final was hard .. which was weird. Nice guy, but not suited to first year classes ..

He seems like a very nice person, and considering that he wasn't supposed to be the one teaching the course, he did a relatively good enough job. One can still get an A in this course even if you never show up to class as the material covered in class is directly from the textbook and the classes are recorded.

If you are looking for a class that you can handle COMPLETELY outside of the classroom, take this course. No new information is presented in lectures, rather they are more of his personal feelings on each topic. Exam questions are straight from textbook and not too difficult. Midterms optional. Read, memorize, get an A.. and use the study guide!

It's not a bad course, not to mention a difficult one. However, attending lectures is rather not recommended since he makes everything really confusing by inserting random personal stories here and there. Take the course if you're interested in psych, but I'd not recommend it for an elective. A lot of work and boring and useless lectures.

if u like structure, don't take this class. the topic itself is very interesting, but u hardly learn anything. i learned more doing the essay for this class than learning what he teaches. very disorganized class, u don't know what to study for the exams until 2 weeks before when he tells u what chapters to read. Take a more interesting class.

Great Prof, and the material is simple. The midterm and final are easy and fair. Basically, this course is what a psyc course should be; you learn a lot from it, it's interesting stuff once you get into it, and the prof is awesome and can actually teach.
