I've been having a fabulous time in this class. He's an excellent instructor. He won't be at Ramapo much longer though, because I hear he's retiring, which is sad for all future students interested in this medium.

Assigned carving marble, not enough jackhammers for every student, we were expected to come in at other times. During class, just waited around for a jackhammer to be free. It wasn't fair because I am a commuter and would have to drive an hour to campus to find that all jackhammers were already in use. I asked to drop the class, he wouldn't let me.

super cool. the class isn't easy and he's going to push you to do the best you can but he takes into account the students (like myself) who aren't fine arts majors when teaching and grading. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Downside: can be kind of a prick at times, but mostly for a good reason. you can't BS your way through this course.

taken him several times. amazing professor. don't take him if u aren't serious about sculpture because he actualy expects you to work. knows his stuff, interesting guy, really cool and easy going if u show him that you know how to work.

I've taken Jay for all levels of drawing and now for Basic Sculpture and I love him. He's critical but in a helpful way, so you can actually improve. Plus he knows what he's talking about and will actually explain things nicely
