Comment:
This class was terrible because there was a lack of structure amongst the learning. The discussion in class is based off of the questions that are asked, so if there are no questions then there will be no discussion. He expects the students to know about midivil literature before they get to the class and fails to explain concepts in a clear way.

Not a bad dude. He grades essays pretty tough. I think I am a strong writer but he gave me a super low grade on a paper--but he let me edit it for a 10% increase. He's nice and the class isn't boring. Definitely need to read because he cold calls--but the readings and books we read were actually entertaining!

Dr. Thayer is very nice and can be such a cool guy if you get to know him. The semester is broken up into 3 sections with each section having about 15 readings. There are 2 papers and 3 tests throughout the semester. The papers require a lot of work so go to the writing center if you want a decent grade. The tests are pretty hard so go to lecture.

Although some people complain about the reading he assigns, its not bad at all and can usually be done right before class. Thayer provokes interesting conversations and if you pay attention in class itll be an easy A. The tests are very detail oriented but extremely easy if you read and listen to the lectures. Overall, I really enjoyed the course

Tests are fairly easy as long as you've been active in the readings and class discussions. Papers are far more difficult so make sure to stop by office hours for help. Nice guy but he can grade harshly so make sure that you put in the extra work to help yourself out. I never got less than a b on his papers so you should be fine!

He's rude and condisending. There are so many better teachers that you can take for that class here (which is to say, you should take anyone but Thayer.) God forbid you don't agree with something he believes too. Also, he is on tenure, so he could care less about his students or what they think of him.

Dr. Thayer is a very intelligent professor who I really enjoy having. He is fair and encourages good discussion. While this is a rigorous course, it is definitely not unmanageable. You typically have a reading assignment for every class but it is fair amounts. He is very caring and interactive with his students and is very helpful in office hours.

Thayer is a great professor who is very passionate about what he teaches. I love that he calls out people for making stupid and irrelevant comments. His love of medieval literature is inspiring, and he makes class interesting and fun.

Dr. Thayer is one of my all time favorite professors. He is extremely smart, and every class is super interesting. His passion for medieval literature shows, and gets his students excited about whatever he is talking about. This was my second class with Thayer, and he did not disappoint. I would take him over and over again if I could.

The tests are relatively easy if you have done all the reading and attended class when they were discussed. The papers are what killed me. He is a TOUGH grader on papers. He doesn't answer my yes or no questions with a yes or a no. He answers with more questions. I would no take him again. Nice guy though!

I absolutely hate this professor... there's not too many tests or papers but the papers you DO have, he grades super harshly and gives terrible feedback. I'm great in english and I'm in danger of losing my scholarship because of him. I liked him at first because he was passionate but his passion quickly turned into arrogance and snarky comments.

I would never recommend taking this class. There are only 3 tests and 2 papers, but he grades the test stupid hard and doesn't give good feedback on them. If you do go to his office hours, he'll talk down to you as if you are stupid and find somewhere else to take points off. Also, you need to quote classroom discussions, otherwise its plagiarism.

So I really loved him in the beginning, until he started getting really condescending and rude. He will call people out if he thinks they're not paying attention or if he thinks they haven't read. He grades very hard. The reading each night is easy, if you keep up on it. He's just obnoxious and I would not take his class again.

Really liked him. He was fun and engaging. Only about 3-5 pages of reading a day and makes you work for your grade. If you put in just a little time and interest, his teaching can really make a difference in your day. Always looked forward to his class.

During his lectures, Thayer likes to call kids out that do not have the book in front of them or if he just thinks they did not read the text before class. If you read and pay attention in class, you will be fine on the tests. Only three tests and two essays. Essays have extremely confusing prompts, and he grades very harshly and arrogantly.

He seemed very uninterested in anything that students had to say if it didn't conform exactly to his ideas about the text. For the essay exam he gave us four prompts, only graded two, wouldn't say which ones he would be grading, and said if we did them at home instead of class we could use our books and notes, but couldn't use them in class.

The class itself isn't too bad. You get a reading assignment each night which is either a poem, short story, or an act in a play. Dr. Thayer, however, is quite full of himself and he calls people out if they haven't been contributing much to the discussion. As long as you read, you'll be fine

Thayer is incredibly unhelpful, and his class discussions often revolve around him picking on students he believes haven't done the reading. He assigns A TON of reading per night, and doesn't think that students have any other classes. His grading is unclear, and inconsistent. DO NOT TAKE
