took him for the summer. really knows his stuff. there's a lot of reading, but that's normal for a history class. there are extra books to read and write essays about on top of the textbook. midterm and final are essay questions, compare and contrast, cause and effect, and one essay. but his study guides tell you possible topics for the essay

He is the most fantastic professor I have come across. I am so surprised people have slated him they obviously could not be arsed to put in some effort because he is so helpful and encouraging. He knows an immense about in his subject. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIS CLASSES TO ANYONE YOU WILL ACHIEVE SO MUCH I WAS NOT AN 'A' STUDENT BEFORE THIS CLASS.

Very good professor. He requires a lot of work but is willing to put in equal time in grading and discussion. He is VERY open minded and treats his students well. He is knowledgeable, but not condescending. Class discussion is required and informative. I would recommend this teacher to anyone who cares about America.

Dr. Sklansky cares deeply about his students and the subject matter. He will pause several times during lecture and ask if anyone has any questions. He truly wants students to understand the concepts. Yes, he is highly intelligent, but he is also patient and approachable.

Dr. Sklansky gets a bad rap on this site. He is among the most brilliant people I have ever had the privilege of sharing a conversation with. Intellectual history does not lend itself to easy explanation but Sklansky does a nice job of bringing things together. Certainly a challenging prof; I will say that I thought he graded me a bit unfairly.

I Literally fell asleep while he was talking to me, and it was just me and him in the room. I think he believes we are all Doctors from Cambridge. I am a history major and I thought he could not have taken a more interesting subject and turned it into a bigger pile of crap. Poor history, doomed by this guy.

Horrible, expects too much reading and work. Lots of work can be put into the class and he won't think twice about failing a student.

This man has the ability to speak about absolutely nothing for upwards of 90 minutes. He is a very nice person, but not suited for his chosen profession.

He's a very boring teacher. If you aren't a History major, me being one of them, this class is NOT interesting at all. All he does is talk all period and hardly has any notes at all. There's a lot of reading too. Beware!

He is very passionate about history and can go on and on and on. He takes this easy bacc core class very seriously. He grades tough and emphasizes student's interpretation of the material. If you don't want to take this class seriously, S/U it.

The class was an hour and a half long and all he did was talk. Not once did he give notes or even handouts. He made the class very easy to fall asleep in. This course was American history 1820 to 1920 and he didn't even mention the Oregon Trail (1850's).
