This guy knows his stuff. If you haven't taken math in a while, steer clear of this guy. He expects you to have a solid foundation before taking the class. Despite barely knowing anything about college algebra, I learned a lot, and I owe it to Botzum for that. I spent at least two hours a week (most times more) in his office. He helped me a lot.

I went through more than half the semester thinking I was bad at math until I started teaching myself and realized it was just his inability to teach. If this is the only math class that's available for you to take, I highly recommend starting/finishing the homework early in the year so that you can pass his class. DO NOT rely on his lectures.

Nice guy, bad teacher. If you aren't naturally good at math you will need a tutor to understand what he teaches. If attendance wasn't necessary I wouldn't go to class because the way he teaches just confused me more. Also the textbook cost close to $200.

Botzum was a terrible professor. I spent hours in his office and he barely helped me. Do not take him unless you really have to. He doesn't know how to teach and gets angry when you don't understand a concept.

He is passionate about what he teaches but typically goes off on a tangent and gets the whole class lost. If you miss class you will miss a show. Typically writes not only on the chalk board but on himself. After class his black shirt is white. If you try to sleep you will wake up to him clearing his throat so nap before class. Overall OK Professor

Online homework for each section. Homework is very easy so make sure you do it for easy points. He over explains the easy stuff and doesn't explain the hard stuff enough.

He is a caring guy, and he wants everyone in his class to succeed, but he is extremely hard to follow. He rambles and goes off on tangents which makes no sense to the things we actually learn. He is a hard teacher to follow but will help you if you there for help. But, you should definitely reconsider him as a professor given the chance

Botzum is literally the worst professor. Half of my class had an F and I don't know how I passed. He would do problems that lasted the entire class and then realize he was wrong the whole time and leave it up to us to correct it and figure it out. I stopped going because being in his class would just make me even more confused.

People in the reviews here are babies. He teaches math, naturally he expects you to understand the basics. I'll agree, he is a more difficult teacher than most. However, people are lying, saying he 'yells,' no he doesn't. Don't make stuff up because you failed his class. I learned more in Dr. Botzum's class this semester than I did any other.

This teacher is the worst, he doesnt explain anything and you will have to teach yourself everything. People ask questions and he yells at them for asking questions, constantly corrected on examples he does in class. Ignores every guy in the class when going around helping, only goes to the females, awful teacher

Terrible!! Run for your lives. Literally does not know how to teach, don't know how he still has a job. He took forever doing problems on the board without explaining and even would have the wrong answer and the students would correct him. He takes 15 minutes to do a problem but expects you to do it in 1 minute on the test. DO NOT TAKE HIM!

He's a really nice guy, not the best teacher. Loves using irrational numbers and square roots galore in his examples. Expects everyone to just know what he is talking about (like factoring polynomials) from previous knowledge; no review section. Spends lots of time on easy stuff, zero time on harder stuff. Tests are based solely on his class notes.

He's a nice guy that clearly cares about his students. However, he's an ineffective professor. His lectures are difficult to follow and he can't clearly convey the material. The examples he uses to explain concepts are poor and while doing them he makes mistakes. If you want to pass the class you have to teach yourself through online resources.

Attended every class, still ended up confused more often than not; even went to office hours and the tutor's hours. He is a nice guy and cares about his students but makes for an awful teacher. If you can avoid the class, do whatever it takes!

Went to every class, took notes and even went to his office hours and still ended up having no clue what was going on sometimes. He will do half a problem then just over to another problem and wont go back to the original problem. He makes a lot of mistakes and students are end up correcting him atleast once or twice a class. Very confusing.

He is a really nice guy but he is not a good teacher. It seems that we teach him more than he teaches us. No one shows up to my class because when he teaches he confuses us so we teach ourselves. If it werent for the online math labs i would probably fail

For your own good do not sign up for his class. He is a very nice man who cares about his students but he is a HORRIBLE teacher. You will be teaching yourself the majority of the material. If you can avoid his class do so.

He's a nice guy, but the class corrects his math more than he corrects ours. He does not clearly explain how to do problems and in order to receive an A on the test, you need to teach yourself based off of mymathlab practices. Honestly, not the greatest professor... at all. Sometimes I feel as if the class teaches him the math.
