Before I only used to be afraid of Sharks and those big green caterpillars with the spike on them.. Now, I fear attending admin Law @ 10am on MWs with John Law. If you don't have a history degree, you will struggle with attempting to follow his odd tangents. He encourages participation, then roasts you after you do. Only class in LS that I skipped

Not a bad guy, has a dry sense of humor. However, his course is 100% verbal instruction. If you are a non-verbal learner like myself you will end up teaching yourself. I found his course quite difficult.

Could not be more pompous and self-saturated. He is needlessly digressive, indulgent, and unclear in lecture. In any Faculty other than law, his research record would have seen him terminated rather than tenured. He hasn't published in years. And when he did, his conclusions were prosaic and completely derivative.

Useless, useless, useless. Might not be a bad guy, but if after teaching admin dozens of times you still can't manage to present the material in a somewhat helpful manner, maybe it's time to re-evaluate your approach. It wouldn't be so bad if he didn't take such pompous pleasure in reminding the students how much smarter he is than him.

He is the embodiment of everything a professor should not be: pompous, unhelpful and petty. Going to ask him questions is as useless as attending his lecture; he is just not interested in his students. Occasional wry humour is a minor saving grace.

I wouldn't recommend any other class with John Law, but this one is good. He loves history and is willing to discuss it at great lengths, anytime. Provides a lot of help with the paper. He is hard and expects alot from his students. Excellent class, and lots of obscure gossip from the middle ages.

the only reason this course was very hard was because the prof would have preferred to be anywhere but in front of us teaching. This is a buyer beware notice: If you're paying over $1000 for a course, you deserve to be treated like you're intelligent.
