Comment:
Dr. Zophys humor is an acquired taste. He has written most of the textbooks used in his class. Exams are based on heavy lecture using the text as a guide.. take notes and study to get the average B+... if you get an A its almost a miracle. Show up and listen.

Only take if you are really interested in the topic. I love Professor Zophy, he is very funny and easy to talk to! I looked forward to his classes each week. 2 book critiques, a midterm made up of multiple choice and essay questions. Final is same but longer. He assigns good books to read. He doesn't hold class all of the time.

Very nice man who basically grades you by book critiques (which are boring & lengthy but easy to do) and the tests. Midterm is basic as long as you paid attention to the discussions and lectures, if not study the textbooks well. Though the final has about twice the content and a longer essay question, so it's tougher

Great guy and very relaxed, but his lectures are long, but not very detailed in the subjects. You take a mid-term and final which covers some of the lectures and the subjects in the books. Easy book critique, gives you an A for just doing it.

Renissaince & Reformation. If you take good notes you wont need to buy the textbook, you do need to buy the two books you critique, lectures can be a bit dull at times, He's a sweet older man cares about his students & their success & really easy grader, very polite & often ends class early, make a friend to compare notes & study with it's helpful

Lectures the entire class, take notes during lecture. You will also read along with a book that gives more details to the lecture. Two book critique papers that are pretty easy. The mid-term and final are a few multiple choice questions with essays. The class isnt too hard, but I would only take if actually interested. I plan on taking him again!

His lectures were dull and vague at points. If you asked questions he would elaborate, but otherwise you got a very general explanation for historical events. I passed this class with an easy A, but it was painful to sit through the boring lectures. He does class discussions and if you fill out the questions, you'' receive some sort of extra credit

He is a very nice guy, but sometimes he talks in circles and his lectures get confusing. His classes are pretty simple though and the workload is fairly light.

His lectures were a bit dull and painful at times to sit through and he is known as an easy professor, but he is a really nice guy who knows his material. Again, he is a really nice person, but if you are looking to be challenged, his classes aren't it.

I've taken Dr. Zophy for 4 of these classes (the topics continuously change). He is very compassionate, helpful, and is very quick with responding to emails. I thoroughly enjoyed his classes, and they're not that difficult - but it may be because his classes are so interesting that you want to do well and learn.

Dr Zophy is an amazing lecturer and mentor. He knows how to guide us grad students into more attainable assignments without necessarily killing our dreams and aspirations. LOL He is also funny and is also flexible. I would call him a very fair professor and knowledgeable. Good to take for all students.

Dr. Zophy was very helpful... you will have to deal with a lot of off handed comments from him. Loves to talk about sex. Very liberal! Was hard to bite my tongue sometimes when he would spew his liberal venom. Just nod and smile!

DR.Zophy is quite a character, he does now his stuff and is easy as long as you actually do what he ask you and can write a decent paper. however, he is very liberal, and he will let you know it. if you are a conservative, just smile and suck it up. you do not have to have teh same interpretation of events as he does, but be prepared to justify.

I took both Revolutionary Europe and Ancient Rome form Dr. Zophy and he was awesome. The requirements for his class are very clear and do not change as the class goes on. He's a very entertaining lecturer. The only thing I would say is that he's better during the regular school year versus summer

Greatest History Teacher in all of UHCL. I took him for four classes and by far my favorite. His classes are extremely enjoyable and he always ties in modern things to history. Take him and you will not regret it.
