Comment:

The most boring class. She treats her students like 5 year olds and talks to us like we're dumb. The tests are HEAVILY weighted and she has lots of stupid in-class assignments for points that you probably remember doing in 5th grade. It's impossible not to zone out in this class.

Comment:

She is very condescending. However, she will sit with you after class when confused. She is an easy grader (minus tests). The main thing I didn't like were the tests. Book is needed. 75% of the material on the tests aren't covered in class. Be prepared to read a lot by yourself (10+ chapters). The tests are book/grammar based and confusing.

Super easy class, but she makes it unbearable. She teaches like we are six year olds who have never used the internet before. Overall though the class is fine, just online connect homework and two tests and some oral presentations, nothing crazy.

This is the actual worst class I have taken in the entire university. She approaches the subject as if she is teaching a class full of elementary school children. As someone who is already has worked in professional settings for years, I was insulted and bored to tears by her condescending approach to what should be a very important class.

Dr.Simmons can sometimes come off as being really condensing. I do not think she means to. I did the connect online and read (actually read) the chapters, and I made an A easily. Come to class and actually make an attempt. She is pretty lenient with the oral grades as long as you prepare and show up.

This is the worst teacher at Florida State. The tests are simple and speeches aren't hard if you prepare yourself. She is just incredibly condescending. Get on her bad side...there's no turning back. And getting on her good side, is impossible. She rudely addresses all of her students and has no knowledge of the modern business world. Do not take!

This should not even be considered a business class. I took it as a business speech credit. DONT DO IT! It should be speech for english majors. You learn pointless grammar techniques that will never happen in business writing. You have one big speech, a mid term, and final. If you do well on your speech, don't worry you will get hit with her exams.

This was my least favorite professor in the COB. She is condescending, rude, and treats you like a child. If you get on her bad side, you will never get off it it. She makes you know a lot of material from the book for the final and midterm, but doesn't teach it. I still did well in the class, but dreaded going every single day.

Not as bad as what I was expecting from some of the reviews. Nice lady, can come off the wrong way sometimes but she really does want to help. She can be pretty funny sometimes (not always intentionally). Tests are not bad as long as you read the book and study the grammar/punctuation. I hate public speaking but she doesn't make it too painful.

I'm going to give you the only honest review on here. I've asked all my classmates and only ONE doesn't hate going to this class. It literally ruins my day every single time. It doesn't matter that it's easy, she makes it miserable. Look up "Professor Umbridge" from Harry Potter. That is EXACTLY how she talks. You've been warned.

Awesome teacher! I love Dr. S. She gives busy work that will help your grade. She gives you the confidence to speak infront of an audience! I would recommend her to anyone!! Her midterm and final are rough. You need to read the BOOK!

This teacher so annoying! Other people are not kidding when they say she talks to u like you are in 3rd grade! It's boring to listen to and she keeps you for the whole class even if you have a test/quiz at the beginning. There are better teachers with better teaching abilities who don't talk like her.

Sweet lady, does give helpful interview info for interviews, resumes, etc. Big on grammar so you use book a lot. Talks to you like your in Elem School, highly recommended~ Final is hard, know your grammar!!

Comment:

Speeches are short, and she walks you through the entire process with class activities. Very kind and understanding teacher; lets you attend a different section (she teaches 3) if an emergency comes up. Also helps you format and write a strong resume and prepares you for interviews.

The most enjoyable professor I have had in my three years at FSU. She makes an otherwise unbearable class fun and easy. She is always available for extra help and offers plenty of chances to review assignments and go over any questions you may have. While the work may seem like busy work, at least she eliminates any long writing assignments.
