Comment:
Professor Van Gundy is very thorough in her lectures but they are very long and boring. Resist the attempt to skip class, you won't pass. The entire course (75% of your grade) revolves around writing one paper, the other 25% is participation.

Spend all semester writing one paper. Professor has TA do pretty much everything for her. Class is boring and most of the teaching is done by yourself outside the classroom.

Worst SOC class I took in 4 years as a SOC major. VanGundy is nice but confusing and she moves way too fast. Her teaching style is patronizing and she attacks your answers to questions. You have to teach yourself. The TA grades everything and is really rude. Four exams (drop lowest grade) and you do "debates" plus a paper around an assigned topic.

An extremely helpful professor who explained things very well. Made an attempt to break up the monotony of some of the material through activities, films, and class participation. All assignments were thoroughly explained. The best professor I have had at UNH.

The most boring class I've ever sat through - and I love statistics. The work was tedious and mundane. Her teaching style was abrasive. The software was 20 years out of date and no real-life context was applied to the material. I do not recommend this class (though it was easy enough).
