Comment:
I don't understand why there are so many negative comments on here about Prof. Kandaras. I found him to be extremely friendly and approachable inside and outside of class. His lectures can seem long at times, but it's only because he wants students to understand the material. He was very helpful and gave genuine and thoughtful feedback.

I really don't know why some students rated Prof. Kandaras so badly. He really knows his subject and I enjoyed the class. His exam was totally predictable (if you paid attention). I also encourage anyone who takes him to talk to him after class and during office hours.

Kandaras is ubra-cerebral. He was BY FAR the most intellectually challenging teacher I had at JMLS many years ago (even smarter than Mel Lewis). His lectures required the closest attention and concentration. Those who complain about him here are possibly too lazy to stretch their brains. Thank you, Ken (Class of 1995).

Worst professor at JMLS. No organization. Useless textbook. Lectures are boring and useless. He is mean. Final was filled with typos and completely unexpected questions. I thought it was the hardest test I had ever taken and I was sure I failed it. I got an A. If that isn't a sign of a bad prof. and a bad class, i don't know what is.

for someone who's been teaching this long, he's pretty awful. exam is ridiculous. gives alot of weight to things we didn't talk much about, yet doesn't test topics that he did spend substantial time on. questions are AMBIGUOUS and POORLY WRITTEN. what kind of prof has to throw out 7+ of his/her own questions? never gives a straight answer. Eeeeeh??

After just taking the exam, NOW I understand why his ratings are so bad...I studied like mad, and I very easily could have failed. Where does he come up with these questions? Could he make it more complicated? Just kill me, kill me now.

Absolutely horrible! He never gives direct answers, he didnt do the final until the day before or that morning. Even if you are a civ pro expert and got a good grade it civ1, did all your reading, participate in class, none of it matters, b/c u need 2 be a mind reader to know WTF he was asking on the exam and what he even meant 2 ask, AVOID HIM!

This final was ridiculous. It had 0 relation to the class lectures. I would have done better on the final by reading the casebook myself. He's the type of professor that keeps JMLS bar passage rate consistently low to mediocre.

Just horrible - doesn't explain topics well, at times can be flat out wrong as to the current law. Its not an incredibly difficult subject to teach yourself, so be prepared to do so.

I think he's a fine professor - I honestly don't know why his reputation at JMLS is so bad. He doesn't usually employ the horrific Socratic method, but rather takes volunteers. Actually, he lectures the majority of most classes. My only complaint is that he forgets where we left off sometimes, and either repeats or skips topics.

Says that being smart and successful in law is possible only for those armed with the "kill or be killed" mentality. According to him, competition is inevitable, but in a cutthroat world that rewards street smarts and cunning conquering enemies is the necessary ingredient for true success.

He has participated in a woman's marches, counseled gay and lesbian youth about their relationships and bathed and groomed elderly people in inner city elder care facilities. He's a great guy!
