Really awesome guy. Doesn't assign very much homework, and his class is very easy to pass if you already know what you're doing. In some classes, he would even bring in his guitar and play some folk songs or Bach for us. Would recommend to music minors.

Dr. Lurie is one of the best professors here at App. I have had him as a chamber coach and for string methods and I love him. He is so kind and so caring that he makes me want to be a better person. Plus, he is an amazing musician and knows what's up when it comes to music. Take any class he offers.

Dr Lurie is incredible. I have always been very intimidated by theory and chose not to be a music major purely because of theory. Dr. Lurie does a great job of explaining things until everyone understands. Not very hard, but a nice learning experience.

He can be kind of dull and make jokes that no one understands. The class was super easy he seems like a really easy grader on things for all of his classes pretty lenient. Helpful if you have questions. Sometimes he explains things in a weird way but will try is best to bring you to understanding.

Class is really easy if you are a music major. I pretty much fell asleep every class and made A- and B+ on every Quiz and Exam without studying. He is a little odd and reminds me of a turtle. Nice guy though.

If you thought coffee could keep you awake through a 9:30 class, wow, think again. This guy's class is BORING beyond belief. You pretty much read out of a text book that says nothing and are expected to teach yourself, then take a test on it. Not a good class.

I love Dr.Lurie! Music theory is a complex subject to begin with, you can't just make it simple. It's a hard class by nature, but he takes the time to really try and help you understand if you don't get it. The sight-singing reallllly helped me develop aural skills. LEARN YOUR KEY SIGNATURES it will really help you!!!

BAD teacher! Not able to make the complex simple. Smiles at you and moves on when you don't understand his explaination. Sniffed the dry erase markers durring class... air filter in his office to help mask marker smell. Nice former hippy that is really good at doing theory/music... NOT Teaching it!

I like Dr. Lurie a lot! I actually feel like I am being spoon fed in aural skills, but for theory you actually have to read on your own somewhat to understand the material. Homework is not part of the grade at all, which I think is good. Make sure you keep up and understand the work assigned, and if you ever have questions about anything he is always glad to help.

I think he is great. He understands when we are having a brain overload and will stop to take a breath and tell a joke. He does not spoon feel material to you, if you know theory pretty well it will be good for you. I think hes great and am so glad hes my teacher!!!

Lurie is the cutest old man ever and he is so helpful! If you are an upcoming freshman you need to take him.. he feels your pain, especially at 8 in the morning. Whoever said he was bad is totally weird!

Nice guy that knows his theory and aural skills. He puts the knowledge out there and puts it up to you to apply it and learn it. I like that kind of teaching, so it's good for me. If you have to be breast fed material then he's not for you.
