Dr. Porter is an interesting character. His enthusiasm for film is good for a class that many would sometimes sleep through. DO NOT MISS CLASSES. Attendance makes up a huge chunk of your final grade. If you do fairly well on assignments and attend class almost every time there is a meeting, you will pass the class. It's easy!

Mr. Porter is a great instructor. He is a very nice person, and extremely helpful when questions are asked. Also, a big plus, he has a sense of humor which helps in a long class that may or may not interest students, but is required for a major.

Dr. Porter really knows what he is talking about technically. However, he often veers off into opinion, which sometimes borders on offensive, particularly to women. He doesn't mean any harm - he's just really old school.

I really enjoyed this class. It was a little boring at times, but the movie selections weren't bad, and I did learn some things that I hadn't known before. Attendance isn't mandatory, but it does help your grade. I would take him again for another course.

I don't know what class the last rater had from this clown but this professor is a total tool. Has he made any real films? Has no idea what goes on in a real production. Most of his knowledge seems to come from magazines. A space cadet who can't maintain a thought for more than a couple of seconds. Has lab assistants teach the technical parts.

Among one of my favorite teachers. Brilliant and knowledgable. Don't let the other posters fool you. This man is an experience filmmaker and knows his stuff in regards to narrative and non-narrative film theory. You have to like the subject matter thou

Very nice, BUT the class has no value and is very boring. He will help anybody that asks, but the tests seemed to be different than the notes. Like I said though he will help if you ask. Recommended if you HAVE to take this class.
