Professor Johnson does teach the material well, but he is a terribly tough grader. He takes off points for the most random of things on exams that are already difficult. Pop quizzes were slightly easier than exams, but his tough grading persisted. If you have a better choice of professors, do not choose Mark Johnson.

A really good professor very clear in his lectures and goes through all the problems well. Not an easy grader take this class if you really want to learn calculus but don't expect an easy A. Do all the homework and you will succeed.

Had him for 140 & 141 and he is definitely someone who grows on you. Do the homework, and actually do a good amount of it. Go to his office hours with any questions. He's an amazing prof and gets a bad rep from students who don't try and blame him. Math 140 and 141 are not easy classes no matter what, so you have to do your homework to do well.

I took Professor Johnson for 140 and 141, after not passing with other professors. Johnson is really good at explaining concepts, as well as throwing in some dad jokes here and there. The class is super difficult, but Johnson genuinely tries to prep you for quizzes/exams as well as he can. Webassign was used to boost your grade (if you did it).

I really learned to love Mark. 141 was a tough class for me compared to other calcs but Mark expects a lot from his students. He can be very rigorous but Ive found that going into 250 after having him, I really learned a lot from him. He want things a specific way but hes just trying to make sure you understand what right and wrong. Take him!

Best Math teacher. I actually learned in this class. He's very helpful if you have to miss class, but you can't make up quizzes because he drops 3 of them at the end of the semester. He's very helpful and will help you pass his class if you are willing to try. Do your homework it helps.

YES TAKE HIM. He is very difficult but most of you that are taking this course are probably engineers and ready for it. Weekly quizzes, but they aren't an issue if you do the work outside of class. Drops your lowest 4 scores. Not much "graded" homework. His students have scores 10% higher on exams this semester than other prof's students. TAKEHIM

Ah, Mark Johnson. He's the kind of person who most definitely inspires people to change majors to avoid him. Off hand, I would consider him my absolute least favorite person on campus if not the entire city. I would recommend you avoid this guy unless threatened with death.

NO! DO NOT TAKE! He is the head of the math department at psua and makes it known. He is never clear what he wants. Exams are 5x harder than the homework. It is nearly impossible to pass. Started class with 35 student by the final there were 3. If you want to keep a good GPA do not take Mark Johnson.

DO NOT TAKE!! If you are forced to, then good luck but you will definetly not get the grade you want (or even a decent one) . This guy was the worst prof I have ever had, since taking this class I have not failed to get a 4.0 every semester (even in my calculus courses!) he makes you feel incompetent and nervous the second he walks in the class.

Not as bad as some make him, but definitely not a great teacher, especially if you arent good at Math. If you are good at Math and dont mind a guy who talks about how all other Math teachers are inferior to him, you may like him. If you are bad at Math, do NOT take him, or take him and just learn from a tutor.

Mark Johnson is very prepared for class and knows the material well. Unfortunately, he cannot teach it well. His grading is pretty harsh sometimes, but other times it's in your favor. He often comes off as rude and inconsiderate. If you can find a nicer and better teacher... DO IT!! If not, good luck with Mark Johnson... he is not terrible.

He's very cocky. He told us that half of us would fail and thinks we "don't care" and yeah like half of us have dropped out. He also talks about how "every other professor is wrong" and how high school math teachers are all stupid ignorant and should be shot.

Over the past 4 years at Penn State, this was by far the worst teacher I have ever had. He should clearly not be teaching due to his lack of interest in helping his students and making them feel inferior to him.

out of all the teachers, this is the WORST one. He gives you no hope, its either you will pass or fail given on his first pre-eliminary quiz. i thought a good/bad professor didn't matter bc the course is already hard but it does. our class average on first exam was 62% while some of the other teachers had 78%. avoid at all costs, he is very cocky

HAHA good luck:)he gives you a quiz the first day its 20 true or false questions and only 1 is true. he then precedes to tell you if you got a 14 or lower you will fail. theres only 2 exams with a final and a quiz every week. his grading is unfair and you get a sense that he tries to make you feel incompetent to himself. half the class fails.

This course was horrible for a variety of reasons. For one, it is a 5 credit course, with a teacher that predicts doom and gloom for his students. First day he tells the class that half will most likely fail. His prediction was correct, but I believe it is mostly do to his teaching methods. Avoid 5 credit courses and avoid this professor.

Math 141 is a hard class regardless. Mark was a pretty good teacher i think. He never took attendance, but you have to go to every class if you want to get a decent grade. Just go to class and office hours, and you'll do fine.
