He tells you that he's a lousy teacher in your first class; but this is not so true. He practices his craft and inspires you to do better with every frame you shoot. He has had enough success in his life that he can cleanly mentor his students by example. Great teacher!

Awesome teacher. I am writing this years after I took his class and I still remember him. Very encouraging, he instills a great work ethic, has great ideas, one of the best photo teachers I've had my entire career (and I'm still a photographer). He makes you work hard, but it's worth it.

Best semester in photo. There's no one else like Nick! if you dont take him that seriously when he starts to get overly sexual like many people do you'll be fine He can be so refreshing because his approach to photography and teaching is very unlike the rest of the dept, so even if your work and your way of photographing is not anything like his you can still get so much out of him and this class. He has a big heart and is not afraid of speaking his mind. Very sucessful artist and a legend at Massart!

very creative person in all ways. if you're shy or a puritan then don't take view camera with him. he is not afraid to express all opinions - and usually their 'sordid.' my favorite story is when he was teaching us about diffusion w/a floodlight and we didn't have a sheet, so he took of his shirt in the middle of the class and used that instead. we will never forget how to diffuse.
