He thinks he's the smartest person on the planet, which is pretty annoying, but he's a good professor. For IR research he gives you a lot of freedom, but sometimes too much to the point that you're wondering why you're paying for the class, but yeah... has his pros and cons.

Excellent professor. Cares a lot about what and how he teaches. Gives his students enough guidance to succeed at the graduate level without baby-sitting them. Intellectual and open-minded at the same time. Has great sense of humor and style. His class was hard work but really enjoyable, exactly what's needed in graduate school.

The most amazing teacher I've ever had. Definitely try to take a class with him, and if the sci-fi class comes back while you're still at AU, do not miss out. It's hard work, but incredibly rewarding.

Professor Jackson is one of (if not the) best professors at AU. Yes, rumors about his tough grading scale are true, but are more than outweighed by how much you will learn in his classes. Don't take any class with him if you want an easy A, take classes with him if you want to have fun, and learn more than the other sections of the same class.

PTJ is awesome! Definitely take a class with him! The material is difficult, but he makes it interesting & interactive. He's a hard grader, but the class is worth it. I took this class for 'University College' and I would definitely recommend it!!

An absolutely wonderful professor! In addition to being engaging, funny, innovative, and an absolute genius, PTJ cares more sincerely about his students than any other professor I've ever had. If you need extra help (with anything!) go to his office hours! You'll learn a ton in this class, but you won't get an A.

I found PTJ to be a little arrogant and unwilling to accept views diverging from his own. the kids who did best in his class were the ones sucking up to him and telling him exactly what he wanted to hear. grades really harshly on papers, but there are only two. Is very smart but thinks he's right all of the time.

His class was very intense. The contents are hard, plus he is a hard-grader. I didn't see either A or B on my assignments. If you want to succeed in his class, focus on what he says and ask him whatever you don't understand. If you don't take his comments seriously, you will fail very easily.
